World AIDS Day falls on December 1st, and on that day and most days, I think about AIDS, and what the disease has taken from me. It has taken a lot from me. More than I can think about sometimes, more than I want to remember. More than anything should take from a person.

The sadness I feel about Lindsay has more to do with the media's casting her as Marilyn Monroe, swaddled in red velvet, sad eyes and vermillion lips, and framing her story as if it has already ended.

Kim Jong Il's Funeral Procession: My Thoughts on the Weirdness

The big photo of Kim Jong Il reminds me of the Chinese funeral processions I witnessed as a child, weaving slowly down Powell Street. There would be a fancy hearse carrying the recently deceased, and the blown-up portrait would be propped on top of the car.
