If past is prologue, many of my meetings with various Japanese entertainment industry execs will largely consist of them questioning me about President Bush and his religious beliefs. The term "fundamentalist" or "genrishugisha" has recently gained currency here. Like many Americans, Japanese have suddenly discovered the Red States phenomenon and they don't know what to make of it.

Decaf Lattes, Crime & Onsen's

| Posted 06.13.2005 | Huffington Post

Crime is on the increase in Japan and not just any old crimes, but those of the weird and sadistic variety. At lunch with longtime friends they tell me that the country has changed radically as crimes have become random, purposeless and inexplicable. When they open it, he attacks them with a baseball bat and then drives off. None of the victims have any idea who he is.

More Proselytizing Please

Remember the Seinfeld episode when Julia...er...Elaine was mad at Puddy for not caring enough about her to proselytize? I'm with Elaine. I'm offended by the lack of proselytizing. Why is it that only Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses come to my door? Where are the rest of you? Don't you care enough about my eternal destiny to tell me I'm on the wrong path if you think I am?

In an extraordinary demonstration of bipartisan cooperation, the grassroots advocacy group MoveOn PAC and the Christian Coalition of America announced Tuesday that together they will endorse ONE’s call for an historic deal for Africa at the G8 Summit in Scotland next month. “It doesn’t matter who you voted for – we can all agree on this life or death issue,” said Ben Brandzel, advocacy director of MoveOn PAC.
