After my set at the Comedy Studio, I rushed to the Longy School of Music to see Wendy Liebman headline at the Boston-based Women in Comedy Festival. Wendy has been one of my favorite comedians for a very long time so I was so excited to get to see her.
Erin Judge (Comedy Central's Live at Gotham) emceed this awesome show. She is funny, confident, smart, unique and socially conscious. Erin's also a really kind, fun and cool person to be around. She is recording her first stand up album in Santa Cruz this weekend for Rooftop records, so be sure to look for that soon!
Erin Jackson (Ellen DeGenerous Show) middled, or "featured" as we say in the biz. Erin is a conversational storytelling comic with a warm delivery. It was also her birthday on that show! Erin Judge had everyone sing to her after her set.
Wendy Liebman is one of the sweetest and funniest people I ever met. She really loves comedy and is all about supporting comics. One of the highlights of my very short and inexperienced comedy career was that she remembered my name, which seems cheesy and fangirlish, but not a lot of headliners make that kind of effort and it really touched me.
Known for a sharp, clever wit, Liebman has a really funny one-liner style that I love. Her set was tight and strong and her delivery is simultaneously controlled, confident and openly genuine. My favorite joke she does is, "When I get back to LA I'm going to have to go see my doctor because I've been feeling really... attracted to him."
Wendy went to school in Boston and began her career there. She had a huge fanbase in the audience and everyone was very involved and excited to be there. It was one of the best stand up comedy shows I've ever seen. Wendy's showtime special Wendy Liebman: Taller on TV is airing now, and will be available soon on DVD.
