Who Is Sarah Palin?
Until the Republican Convention, very few had ever heard of Sarah Palin... and now this mean-spirited campaigner is asking who is Barack Obama?
I'm asking who is Sarah Palin?
I know that she's a woman who doesn't believe in allowing women the right to choose their own reproductive health decisions even if they are victims of rape... but approves of these victims getting billed by the government for the rape kits used to examine them.
I know she's a beauty pageant runner-up who is a gun totin' extremist in her views on the environment, religion, women's choice and the separation of church and state.
I know she's a woman who along with John McCain would divide this country while pledging that she and the Senator are "mavericks" who know how to reach across the aisle.
I know that as mayor of the small town of Wasilla she increased spending by 63% and left behind a $19 million long-term debt, which was non-existent before she took office.
I know she hired the same good-ol'-boy network of Washington lobbyists she says she will fight if elected, in order to secure millions of dollars of earmarks for Wasilla.
I know that she's been found guilty of abusing her power as governor by pressuring a state official to fire her former brother-in-law and then firing the official when he refused... an investigation that began prior to her selection as vice president.
And I know that the American public has had less than two months to vet Sarah Palin, and during this time the press has had to fight tooth and nail to secure just two network interviews with her... while she still refuses to appear on the tougher Sunday news shows.
On the stump, Sarah Palin and John McCain continue to avoid addressing the critical issues facing our country. Neither of them provides any substantive conversation on what they will do to steer our country on a journey back to prosperity. Palin's sheer ignorance and lack of experience precludes her from speaking thoughtfully about the financial and foreign policy dilemmas we face. And John McCain's voting record forces him to change the subject.
McCain knows his policies have contributed to the unraveling of our financial systems due to excessive deregulation. McCain knows that he supported the war in Iraq since its inception, which has been a tremendous financial and military drain on our country. Both Sarah Palin and John McCain know that if this election continues to be about the housing market, the economy, healthcare, the environment, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan -- the issues that affect everyday Americans -- they will lose this election. And after eight years of Republican control that has left this country in deep distress... they should lose. So now that we know who Sarah Palin is... do we want her a heartbeat away from the presidency?

I want to apologize for that b/c it was tasteless. I wish no harm to anyone, including Gov. Palin. Writing that, even in jest, as was my intention, would make me just like the dirty scoundrels running McCain's campaign.
I wish Gov. Palin and her family health and a great health plan as Obama is suggesting. In alaska, of course. Not DC!

Barbara, would you mind addressing the mainstream media with that question? I am amazed that they are letting Palin off the hook, and refusing to scrutinize her background and experience. When they have questioned anything having to do with Palin, the McCain campaign cries foul or sexism, and the press whimpers away. We should expect a thorough vetting of someone who could potentially become president of the United States. Perhaps you could have some influence on the major networks, since they seem reticent to act.
Very true bibb. The McCain campaign has become very adept at turning their negative attention toward the media when anything negative is reported about Palin. They're masters at it. Look what happened with Couric. They said the "what do you read" question was a GOTCHA question and Couric was the "bad guy" for asking it.
What about Dave Letterman bringing up McCain assocation with G. Liddy.
Some think that the Liberals are our Left wing, but look at who are our leading “Liberals” Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Al Gore, Hillary Clinton all members of the elite class. How can they relate to the common old working class? They are certainly not Left wing they are just to the right of center. This does not mean that they are not doing some good, yes! Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton you have them to thank anytime you see a Doctor or go Hospital for your rights. Al Gore is doing a lot to bring Global Warming out into the open and pressure Congress and the President to do something about it. I am not sure what John Kerry has done, except give George W Bush a second term. This is not good against evil, but of different contradictory interests Corporate Leaders want to maximize their profits while the common old working person wants a good living for them and their families. When it come to spending money to benefit other people a lot of people turn conservative and when it comes to spending money to benefit them and their families they turn Liberal.
There is nothing sexier than an intelligent woman, which makes Ms. Streisand is the ultimate American woman and Mrs. Palin, less than human!
Gov. Sarah Palin is a conservative republican that lives the way she espouses to. What you see is what you get, and the fact the msm has found nothing that the American people give 2 hoots or a holler about tells the real story. The msm has done nothing but rake this woman and her family over the coals and call her everything from stupid to uneducated to neo-con. I ask you, why should she sit down with the msm if all she will get out of it is more slandering blogs (like this one) and hateful words? As she said in her acceptance speech, she will go directly to the American people and talk to them without the filter of the msm disecting her every word. And that is exactly what she is doing, out on the campaign trail. The dems need to get used to her, she'll be around for years to come in our government and in Washington D.C.

Yes, you're right. The MSM should be disbanded completely for asking her actual QUESTIONS! And the American people should be ashamed for wanting her to actually answer them! What we are asking of her as a possibile future President is completely out of line - cohesiveness of thought, knowledge, leadership abilities and openmindedness.
Really, we should all stop asking so much from our candidates!
AND BTW, she admittedly is NOT talking to the American people. Only to those in small towns who she considers pro-America. To that I say, Governor, please bring all our soldiers from urban areas who are in Iraq home NOW!!!!!

What scares me most about Palin is her implicit belief in the Christian "Rapture"!!! The 9/11 terrorists, for example, were also willing to die for their promised glorious after-life. The "Rapture," "The end times are near," the 3:00 AM phone call, and her finger on THE button are utterly terrifying.

He's written two memoirs and participated in a couple dozen televised debates in his career! Anyone who asks "Who is Barack Obama" is just showing their ignorance. The information is available for anyone who takes the time to become informed. Palin, on the other hand, is being shielded from the press, and the two times very gentle interviewers were allowed access to her, she could hardly string together a coherent sentence, and then blamed it on being "annoyed." If simple interview questions like "What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with besides Roe v Wade?" annoy her, it's only because they show her profound lack of knowledge about national politics.
What she is, is really a shill for the corporatists who want to control our government.

Great post Barbara - I've also wondered why the media does not discuss the Palin's association with the secessionist group in Alaska - when McCain/Palin spend 1/2 their time questioning Obama's patriotism and/or inferring he hangs out with terrorists. Does anyone think it's a good idea for someone associated with an secessionist group like Todd Palin to potentially have access to confidential information - especially when it's been proven he's been given access andhas been involved in his wife's governorship? And I still believe it is McCain and Palin who are terrorists by using fear to promote their political agenda -- that is the dictionary definition of terrorism --

Millions of Americans will never forget Palin,who, in her first speech to the Repub Convention tore into Sen. Obama and smeared him. Even though we knew nothing about her and her garbage from Alaska. (You would have tought she would have waitied for at least one week in the vp slot before she attacked)
Her consistent smears and LIES have wounded millions of Americans.
She is a disgrace to women. Each time she opens her mouth, she stabs us with a knife. We know what kind of woman she is. Your article says it all.
