Bashir Ahmad Gwakh is an a freelance journalist from Afghanistan. In his so far eight-year journalism career, he recently has worked as news editor for NATO/ISAF newspaper, Azadey Ghag. Before ISAF/NATO, he, as an investigative journalist, covered political and human rights issues for IWPR (Institute for War and Peace Reporting) in Kabul. Bashir has covered Afghanistan as a staff correspondent for PAN (Pajhwok Afghan News) eastern Afghanistan. In addition to writing columns for various local magazines, he has gone on air as a commentator on Afghanistan’s Lemar television and Radio Free Europe (Azadi Radio). Bashir has also served as chief-editor for Saanga, a highly acclaimed political and news magazine in Afghanistan.

Along with journalism career, Bashir has proven his skills in the field of public relations too. He has served as public relations officer for Eastern Zone Journalists and Writers Union-Afghanistan and has trained spokespersons for Afghan political parties at Sayar Media & Communications. Bashir has been published in local and international media outlets and presently blogs at AfghanCorner.blogspot.com to generate and share ideas about the current situation in Afghanistan. As a native Afghan, he brings more knowledge and a broader perspective of current affairs in ‘once-ignored’ country and its surrounding areas to the readers, especially those who have not been to Afghanistan.

Gwakh recently published his Pashto poetry collection under the title Your Memories Are My Companions. His astronomical talent earned him the prestigious Fulbright scholarship in 2007 and moved to U.S. to peruse his Masters degree in Media and Communication.
