Movie Review: Exit Through the Gift Shop

What's Your Reaction:

My favorite documentary film of the year thus far is Exit Through the Gift Shop. I'm not even sure if it can completely be called a documentary but it certainly captivated my attention. Fascinating and quite comedic, the film features remarkable behind-the-scenes footage of many of the most notable street artists of this generation, including Banksy and Shepard Fairey.

We are guided throughout the film by Thierry Guetta, who is quite odd yet brilliant and engaging in many ways. Thierry reminds me very much of Philippe Petit, the daring Frenchman whose high wire walk between the Twin Towers of New York City's World Trade Center is captured in another magnificent documentary film, Man On Wire.

Check out the trailer below. Thanks to Jacob Liskin for the recommendation.

Banksy has us all hoodwinked. To find out the extent of the hoax check out my comment here: http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/MovieTimes?oid=1669768&cb=7024e922dd9025e7bae7ad86e13fa038&sort=desc#readerComments

"Exit Through the Gift Shop" and "The Great Rock and Roll Swindle" featuring the late Malcolm McLaren would make an awesome double feature.

I loved this film. People were rolling with laughter and I agree that it's the best documentary of the decade, so far.
