Romney Talking Out Of His #%$

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Out of all the Republican speeches at their convention, Mitt Romney delivered perhaps the most disingenuous, malicious pile of garbage so far. The phoney Reagan look-alike spent 20 minutes bashing 'Washington', calling it liberal, and arguing McCain and Palin would offer 'real change'

His entire argument was so specious, even he didn't really believe it.

Romney's main points:

1. Washington is Liberal. Activist judges,Teacher's Union's destroying education, out of control spending.
2. Democrats want to destroy the economy with higher taxes and more regulation
3. Democrats won't call 'Islamic Terrorists' evil.
4. Democrats want to lose the war in Iraq

To stand in front of a national audience and claim that Washington is liberal, that Republicans will bring change, and that Democrats are responsible for mounting debt requires something quite special. And Romney has it in abundance: Absolutely no shame.

Romney is clearly promoting himself for the Republican choice in 2012, sucking up to the core of his party and using every slander, mistruth and fabrication in the GOP handbook. The fact that Romney doesn't believe what he is saying (as a successful business man, he simply cannot be that stupid), means his party wont buy it either. For that reason, he won't be the front runner should McCain lose this time round (the GOP requires ideologues who believe their own bullshit), but he may get another shot at VP. With performances like that though, it's hopefully the last we've seen on Mitt 'Strength' Romney on a national stage.

Would Romney give up Mormonism for Neoconservatism? Do theobots lie?

Anyone who accepts nomination to this GOPAC-inspired, Neo Con operation does so knowing they are relieving themselves on the Constitution.

couldn't agree more --- a lot of what romney was saying made no sense whatsoever and defied logic

it reminded me of the southpark episode where johnnie cochran used the chewbacca defense to distract and confuse a jury

Dear Ben,
Please learn the NEW "faux cussword" symbols...

Your title should have been, "Romney talking out his @$$"

He has to be nice to McCain becasue A) if Palin gets fropped he has another kick at the VP can and B) if McCain loses, he will try again, in 2012.

He told outrageous lies and made ridiculous statements. Liberal administration and Supreme Court?! I hate to think how he'd run the country.

Guess telling the truth isn't required of good mormons or christians. As the old saying goes, "You Lie Like a Rug!"

Romney too slick by half. Is insulted by MCain. Can't beieve McCain went for someone else for Vp> Yet continues to promote the lying Republican agenda. This time the American people will not be fooled. Everything in this country has gone wrong in the last 8 years and the shameless Republicans call Washington too liberal. They had control of the government so we know whjere the cause of our many problems lie. Just when I think Romney may be able to breathe freely again he returns his nose to where its been stuck for so long. This disingenuous man will never be President of the U. S. He has no sense of right or wrong and is totally self serving. If he had any pride he would just sit on the sidelines. I guess being President is more important than pride. Shame on you Romney.

I totally agree. I thought Romney was by far the worst speaker of the night. It seemed like he was stuck in some kind of time warp. Maybe those thoughts would have worked if Clinton was still in the white house, but I don't even think it would have worked then. I found his whole speech pointless, but he did do a great job of promoting Huckabee. I thought Huckabee did a great job. He really can tell you anything and you'd believe it. I don't agree with all he had to say, but he did it in a way that didn't come off as angry, and came off as very sincere. I think he truly does believe what he says, which was the exception for the night.

I can't believe this buffoon is claiming that Teacher's Unions are destroying education. My mother is a teacher, and isn't particularly pro-union (being a disturbingly staunch Republican), but will be one of the first to point out that teachers unions are, at this point, the only holding education together. The no-child left behind policy is destroying public education in this country, and the unions are fighting to keep teachers salaries acceptable, and those teachers without strong unions are the ones leaving the profession in record numbers.

Gee go easy on Mitt, he's thinking of the future and only speaking figuratively!

Nobody takes what he says seriously!

My husband and I were actually laughing during Romney's speech. We couldn't stop asking, "Is he being serious?" I believe he was actually trying to make the case that for the last 8 years, the Republicans have been passing all kinds of secret liberal bills that have screwed up this country. Last night, left became right, and right became left. Only in Republican world I guess. But if you are desperate and it's all you got. . .

For Mitt Romney to declaim that the Supreme Court is "too liberal" is laughable on its face. But perhaps we should hold the laughter in abeyance.

Consider the example with which Mr. Romney tried to make his point -- the awarding of constitutional rights to "Guantanamo terrorists" -- and the thunderous roar of approval this drew from the convention floor. His totalitarian instincts and the enthusiasm demonstrated by the Republican brown shirts should shock and frighten every American who still believes that the Constitution is the crowning glory of our democracy.

This might, perhaps, seem counter-intuitive after watching the Bush administration shred the constitution for nearly eight years, but constitutional due process protections apply to all persons. This is not a matter of esoteric Supreme Court interpretation -- it's right in the Constitution itself. It is a issue so resistant to conflicting interpretations that not even the Roberts court could muster an activist majority to resist its plain mandate of due process for non-citizens.

It is awful that Americans are so ignorant about the Constitution. It is downright disgusting when they are deliberately mislead into ignorance by politicians like Mr. Romney.

Republicans have never recently been fond of the 'reality based community'. They have been living in kind of a fantasy land of realities chosen for how well they play when broadcast over talk radio shows.

They live in a land where tax cuts pay for themselves, balancing revenues and expenditures will ruin the economy, anybody who disagree with them 'hates America', global warming doesn't really need to be addressed, and there is just tons and tons of oil being kept out of production if we just drill and lay pipelines. And all that makes a person completely ready to lead is having a touching story like being a POW.

I saw a slick used car salesman standing on that podium, giving a phoney baloney sales pitch to make us buy a broken down old clunker. I sure hope America is smarter this time around.

Jenny...Sadly P.T. Barnum was right..there's a sucker born every minute..or in Palin's case..every 9 months.. I was aghast I tell you..aghast at Mittens..way back "when"...I thought "okay..I "could" handle him as Prez"...but nope..he's now drunk the kool-aid that is some wierd...bizarro world of neo-con thought.

It was embarrassing, as an american, to think..OMG...they're watching this in Europe..a gun toting, very fertile neo-fascist...being lauded by wannabe's like Mittens... it was too much..I really wanted to watch the whole thing..but honestly...pulled a Baldwin ..got out the map..and though..where should I move "if"..god forbid..."they" win...OMG.... it is beyond comprehension to me.

I truly wish the god these people claim to love..would just rapture them all off to wherever...today...let the rest of us straighten this crap out...

How about berating "liberal" Washington for doubling federal spending over the last 28 years. Weren't Republicans in the White House for 20 of those 28 years?
