Recently I've noticed a fast growing fascination with the Middle East and North Africa amongst more intrepid travellers. Whether that is because we are so exposed to the region through the news or just that the world is waking up to the incredible sights and sounds on offer it is hard to tell. Countries like Libya, Syria, Jordan and Egypt offer a compelling mix of history, culture and adventure, but Morocco is perhaps the most accessible in the region. On a recent trip to Morocco we soaked up the sights, sounds and smells of the Souk in Marrakech, trekked with mules in the Atlas Mountains and headed into the Sahara Desert on Camels all in the space of two weeks.

Morocco certainly isn't shy of the camera, I dare you to look through these highlights of Morocco and not feel at least a small urge to visit.

Inside the Marrakech Souks

When you think of Marrakech, you think of the Souks. Teeming covered markets, that are far tamer than their reputation suggests. The Moroccan government has gone to great lengths to tidy up the issues with touts, and now guides are heavily regulated. I got far less hassle hear than in SE Asia or India. If you aren't prepared to bargain then don't bother.

i treated myself to an exotic trip to morocco for my 50th birthday. what a fantastic experience it was. for the first few days i was unable to sleep and couldn't figure out why. it finally dawned on me that my senses were being bombarded with colors. smells, scenery, foods, culture and so many things that i had never seen before. it was a fabulous journey and i hope to be able to travel back to morocco again someday.

My family and I went to Morocco and fell in love with the people. Their wellingness to teach us about their culture was amazing...My daughter and I are going to visit Egypt this year.

I keep bookmarking all these amazing pages and summaries from HP. I hope one at a time, as funds accrue every year, I can get two of these names checked off my list every year.

My worry is that webpages that I bookmark would disappear. Hope that is not the case. Ofcourse you can always by a book or travel guide, but I like this quick pointers and nice summaries.

Morocco is an amazingly beautiful place. Everyone should visit at some point in their lives.

Though I agree that the pics didn't do the country justice, they were enough to bring back great memories of having spent a week in Morocco a few years back. The photo of Chefchaouen made me smile, as visiting that mountain village proved to be the highlight of my trip there. Very scenic country, the people of Morocco were very friendly and welcoming, and I just couldn't get enough of the wonderful food (just thinking of chicken tagine with cous couse makes my mouth water). I hope to go back some day.

Morocco is indeed a great place to visit and explore. I highly recommend it. Many things to see, do and learn not only in Marrakech, but also Rabat, Casablanca, Meknes, Fez, Agadir, and Tangiers. Great food and shopping.

Morocco is the nation that has the longest standing treaty of peace / friendship with the USA, which was signed in 1786. Just thought I would share =)

I agree with the poor pictures. I spent three weeks in Morocco and here are some of my holiday shots:
