Benjamin Chaneles is a grassroots media activist and relief worker in New Orleans, Louisiana. He traveled to the region shortly after Hurricane Katrina, planning to spent two weeks volunteering- inspired by what he saw, he chose not to leave. He continues to devote his time to the rebuilding effort and is also enrolled in graduate school at Tulane University.

Previously, Benjamin worked as an activist and IT strategist for advocacy-focused nonprofits in New York and Washington, DC; and was an early and active member of the Independent Media Center. In 2004, he edited and produced the audio archives of the National Conference on Organized Resistance, available through AK Press. He is currently working on his first book, a practical exploration of how Saul Alinsky's community organizing techniques might best be adapted to emerging media. He holds a BA in Social Technology from Burlington College.
