A quick report on the response to my DRAFT AL GORE! blog last week. More than 160 people wrote in, almost all in vigorous support of a Gore candidacy. A few were not only pro-Gore, but irritated that I had not simply signed the petition at draftgore.com. Why "reinvent the wheel"? they wondered.
Well yes, let's be clear, you can sign a petition at draftgore.com, more than 100,000 have done so. And you can get involved at algore.org, many have.
But let's welcome the initiatives coming from many different places, and encourage folks to do it their own way. Check out the many different forms of enthusiasm and many distinctive and impressive 'good reasons' for a Gore candidacy offered in the comments posted on my last blog, and I hope you will be persuaded that letting a thousand flowers bloom (yeah, I know that was Mao, but it's still good advice) is the way to go.
If the aim is to persuade Gore he is obligated to run in order to honor his convictions and serve his country and the world, then more is better: more petitions as well as more petition-signers; more personal expressions of why and what for as well as more arguments aimed directly at the vice president.
As many commentators noted, time is running out. To get more Gore we need more core Gore.
