Burning Down the Democratic House

It has been extraordinary to feel the fire ignited by Barack Obama and his message of change sweeping through our country. I wanted him to burn down the decaying Democratic house on February 5th, so his and our Phoenix could rise up from the ashes. The United States could begin again.

I expected too much for one day. The race goes on. So be it.

I'm not going to let the politics of politics tear me down. Hillary can play her games with the American consciousness and public by appearing on the Fox Network on February 11th for a debate. And what about Obama? Jane Hamsher writes on The Huffington Post about Roger Ailes' joke comparing Barack Obama to Osama Bin Laden, and Harry Reid rightfully nixing a Democratic Fox debate in Nevada...

...Fox is not a news outlet, it's an openly partisan opinion factory and the Democrats should not be legitimizing them (and allowing them to recruit Democratic viewers to propagandize to) by doing this.

Today, I am inspired more than ever that we can heal our nation -- and that Barack Obama is the candidate who can lead us to that place. Today, I see a vision of Obama presenting a new face of America to those around the world. He is repairing the damage of how other peoples and nations feel about us -- and reinvigorating the confidence we have in our own selves. His power comes from solid roots as he sweeps the Old Guard away -- putting an end to the Bush corruption -- and he installs progressive individuals and policies in their place. His character, judgment, and experience help him to lead the Democratic Congress in the right direction.

Let him burn down the dilapidated Democratic house so it can rise again!

The problem is that "healing" sometimes requires cutting out the tumor. Would Obama hold the Bush/Cheney White House accountable for lying America into war, for war crimes, and for disabusing the constitution right and left?

If not, the tumor continues to grow.

This may not be quite on topic here, but Chris Matthews said something last night I found too disturbing to go without comment. He said that Bin Laden might launch an attack right before the election to influence the voters to vote for the Democrats because that tactic "worked" in Spain when they had their big terrorist attack.

Matthews is one of the biggest morons in the cable news biz. He totally distorted what happened in Spain. The Spanish voted their right-wing prime minister out of office mostly because he lied about who was responsible for the attack, blaming it on the Basque separatists. And they were smart to get out of Iraq, terrorist attack or not.

But Matthews is the kind of moron common in the American electorate that Bin Laden knows he can manipulate. His 2004 video scolding Bush and practically endorsing Kerry seriously damaged Kerry, and might well have made the difference in the outcome of the election. Bin Laden obviously views Bush's Iraq war as a gift, not only diverting the US military from smoking him out in Afghanistan, but also as an excellent jihadist recruiting tool and training program for urban combat.

McCain already said that it's OK with him if the US is in Iraq for a hundred years if that's what it takes to achieve "victory." So with McCain's election, Bin Laden would be assured that Bush's gift would keep on giving.

Whether Clinton or Obama gets the nomination, this, I fear, is what could happen, and it could change the election outcome just as it probably did in 2004.

Looks like Clinton versus McCain to me. Both pro war, pro attack Iran, no plan for trillion dollar budget def., no plan for trillion dollar trade def., pro spending social security surplus, no "new energy" plan,

Basically both have no plan for anything

I will support the nominee. And I am plenty angry with Hillary over her centrist votes which are haunting her, now.
But Beth, other than rosie-eyed vague rhetoric which (to me) is scarily reminiscent of W., what has Obama done so far and what will he actually do differently to bring about this "change?"
I agree with Gloria Steinem that a woman with Obama's resume would never be taken seriously enough to run for President.

I hear ya. And I appreciated you prior essay Over the B/Hill, and have since read all your HuffPosts. First time commenter. (Cherry-pop sound.)

Point being, you are winning me over. Your arguments for falling out of fandom with Hillary are compelling.

I have commented extensively here on HuffPo in full-on support of Hillary, despite her obvious flaws, and in skeptical restraint re Obama, despite his persona -- seeing the race as an embarrasment of Democratic riches.

So here's the rub: My fear is NOT of an Obama presidency, but that the Obamanistas will not support Hillary should she get the nomination.

I fear the phoenix rising from the Democratic house fire, a crime of political arson induced by Obama-the-Uniter's NON-unity-minded inafatuationistas -- such as yourself -- already has a name: More-o-the-same McCain.

My head says Hillary. My heart says Obama. My gut says... get ready to puke.

I must admit, I don't get it. Sure Obama talks about sweeping change, but if you look at his policies, they really aren't that sweeping.

As far as healing our nation, Obama can't do that. That will not happen until the right wing slime machine is repudiated by a huge majority of Americans. We are a long, long way from that day and nothing Obama says will change it.

Obama inspires me, Clinton does not.
Obama is Change, Clinton is not.
Obama is fresh, Clinton is stale.
Obama has little baggage, Clinton is baggage.
Obama represents diversity, modernity and the future.
Clinton represents herself.

For me, Barack is the way to go. Barack Obama as President says it all, it is no clearer than that, in America anything is possible. This is the right guy for the moment, today America does not need another Clinton or Bush or Reagan again it needs a Barack Obama and a mandate from all of us to begin steering our Nation to a better path.
