Elisabeth Hasselbeck Is Still Annoying

I don't even watch The View. When it was new, I loved it. Let's say I might have been close to addicted. Then I moved to France, and when I come back to visit, I don't have time nor do I want to see it anymore. Has The View run its course?

The show became less interesting for many reasons -- Elisabeth Hasselbeck being a prime one. Now, really, I only see clips of The View on the Internet -- and that's enough.

Hasselbeck was and is the Token Conservative on the show, and maybe The View should have one -- if it wasn't her. What does Ms. Hasselbeck add? A shrill and poofy, often misinformed bouncy ball of commentary (which is really too big a word to use for her) pinging off the more substantial walls of Joy, Whoopi, and Barbara. I can't speak about Sherry, who seems to be a more or less a convivial member of the group. But I don't believe the hype that they all really get along.

Ms. Hasselbeck was truly cartoonish during the election, and by that, I mean in a Cruella de Ville sort of way -- trying to promote the Republican ticket and to slap down the uppity Democrats. One TV show clip after another revealed her.

Now, even after the election, when Ms. Hasselbeck's own Sarah Palin (evidently her feminine ideal of brain and power) lost, and she has been muzzled, more or less, by the overwhelming public support and power of the Obama Era, she continues to irritate. Even when she's defending Michelle Obama. Here's the clip.

Is The View's Republican girl trying to improve her likability here? During the election hullabaloo, when she was at her most Hasselbeckiness, Barbara must have told her to straighten up and fly right.

On this particular show: "Hasselbeck said, 'I think, look, if this is the media's attempt at trying to be objective as we move into the next administration, they're moving in the wrong direction.'"

How hilarious coming from her!

Am I wrong? Does anyone like her better now?

You are absolutely spot on! And, NO, she is NOT more likable. She continues to be as annoying as ever. She still is unable to demonstrate skilled critical thinking processes. She lacks substance in the arguments she does put forth. Her voice is shrill and her mannerisms arrogant and self-important. Maybe if she starts by sitting on her hands the entire time she might make some headway towards repairing her image....I just CANNOT WAIT until The View replaces her!! They need to get a conservative token in there who has a brain between those ears!

Well, like you, my notions of The View are attained via internet clips, like this one. Yes, I agree she is childishly petulant, her rebuttals lame, her voice screechy. But, heck, she's got a well-paying job which means there's hope for the more talented pounding the pavement. Her commentary regarding Michelle's fashion faux pas or flair was, I think, right on. It wasn't corny to hitch the change in the style to the the change in admin, either. Elizabeth redeemed herself with this one.

She is not smart enough to be in that position. She thinks reading an article or simple statistics makes you prepared to debate a point. However, you have to be somewhat analytical or have a dose of common sense - she has neither. She goes quickly from entertaining to intensely annoying. I think they can do better. And finally, I feel sorry for her kids and hope they wear her out when they become teens and young adults!!!

Nope, you nailed it... still can't stand Elisabeth.

I used to love the View, but since Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been on the show, I will not watch it! I wish Barbara Walters would get rid of her. I have never done anything like this before, but that lady irritates me with her stupid comments and the way she comes off like she is better and smarter than anyone else on that show. I enjoy it when Whoopi puts her in her place.

Liz is just one of a gaggle of media people that are annoying, odd, irrelevant and stupid. Is it just me, or does it seem like neocons are always screaming at someone. The View, The Factor, Hannity, etc. are just a handful of examples of conservative screamers.

What is frightening is their unwavering belief that they have a command of the facts and their conclusions are simple logic that any fool should understand. When anyone attempts to disagree with them or more importantly tries and correct them, they just get louder. Liz is one of them. Why does the View need a conservative hostess? It certainly is not news. Other than Whoopi, Barbara, and Joy the other two have a combine IQ less than 60 (and that is on a good day). and I find myself embarrassed for them every time they open their mouths.

I feel sorry for WG who has to talk slowly and distinctly, asking for permission to finish a sentence before Liz goes ballistic about something she knows nothing about. I have watched misrepresent fiction as fact. However, she believes that she is a christian, a good person, a role model, and wants to be Sarah Palin when she grows up.

My point. She is pretty, blonde and hollow. She will be on Fox News with her own show in the future.

Well said.

I personally love Elisabeth. The show wouldn't be the same without her, and everyone here knows it.

The problem with her is that she is so typical of a dumb person - her beliefs drive her rhetoric, not her brains or the facts, so she spouts off on things she knows little about, but assumes she does. She actually believes she is smart and thus needs not to have the facts, but rather just her beliefs which are greed, condemnation, judgement and hate. And now that she's a mother, she's the expert of that field and has all the wrong answers to motherhood. Her college education brings up a lot of questions for me as to its validity since she never learned how to think critically, just shrilly. The one to hate here though is Bill Geddes, the producer of the View, who actually thinks these women represent smart women. They don't speak for me ever on the issues, but I would only go to them for advice on makeup and clothing because that they know.

I have to disagree with most of you, while I don't agree with ANYTHING Elizabeth says, I do think that she serves 2 important purposes. First I think that she is VERY representative of what most conservatives think & therefore gives the rest of us an opportunity to think about what we would say if we were speaking to someone who thought the same way & then we can be prepared when we run into these idiots (I had one man stop me while driving down the road because I had a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker & tell me that I must not want Iraqi women to be able to vote). Second she also brings conservative viewers to the show that would not watch if she were not there & in doing so, they see other (smart & valid for a change) points of view from Whoopi, Joy, Sherri, & Barbara.

What a boring world this would be if we were all the same.

Get rid of her. It is obvious the other women think she is a lightweight.

I agree with you Beth, she's loud, wrong, and a dumb loudmouthed blonde! If they must have a delusional republican on board - can they find one whose voice doesn't make me feel nails on a chalk-board! I know it's really hard, but she really needs to go!!!!!

I don't like her any better and I'm sure she'll soon be back to bashing the Obama's.

The problem with conservativism is that it is negativity even though it masquerades as positivity.

Republicans are still Republican even though many are now hiding behind the labels of "independant" (which they certainly are not) and "libertarian".

Who cares if EH is a lightweight! I like her being on the View. She provides the perfect catalyst for some really sharp and interesting commentary from Joy and Whoopie. She really make those two step up their game, which they invariably do. Think about it, when Joy and Whoopie are at their best they deliver some of the best zingers and memorable moments on TV. I can think of at least 3 instances over the last several months where those two went where the MSM was terrified to go.

You are RIGHT, I didn't put it together, she is the Straight man, and sets up the jokes. I don't like Lizzy, but she does set up the others for jokes, and to look smart.

She gives right-wingers a bad name (and that's saying a lot) because she talks like someone who's been told what to say, much like her idol, Sarah Palin. You get the sense she really is a dumb blond who receives her daily talking points from the RNC. And she's proof that personality trumps looks. Just knowing the stuff that comes out of her mouth completely cancels out any "cute" factor.
