Dysfunctional Family

These are extraordinary times that call for extraordinary actions. This is not a time for politicians in the House and the Senate who we are trying to trust to lead us out of this morass to start finger pointing, name calling and trying to save themselves. I have often been called a true believer when it comes to politics. I have raised money to help candidates I believe in since 1992. I have done so with pride and a profound belief in our system. But now I am disappointed and disheartened by the partisan spew coming out of their mouths. Stop.....please when the future of the economy is the topic, please stop the partisan rancor.

Follow the example of Larry Summers and James Baker. They appeared together on George Stephanopoulos' This Week. They spoke with calm reasoned discourse trying to explain the problem at hand. They respected and agreed with each other when they could and dispensed with blame. Lord knows they could have gone down a very negative path but both opted to show unity for the sake of the public. No one needs to stoke the fires of fear.

There is a higher calling. We Americans are like a dysfunctional family arguing, bickering, blaming and usually not hearing each others grievances. But in times of grave crisis the family needs to come together, stand by each other until the crisis subsides. We have a greater consideration. We all know the view of America has dramatically declined in the past years, but if we have been despised before just see how the world feels when we get the blame for the decline of the world economy. It will be easy for these foreign governments to lay blame at our feet instead of taking responsibility on themselves. We have become the country people love to hate. In Jim Hoagland's article in today's Washington Post he talks about the glee in the Russian President's voice as he proclaims "dump America Inc." Medvedev also has plans to launch an initiative to form a new security treaty between Russia and Europe that would marginalize NATO and exclude the US. So, case in point, stop the bickering come together as a family and begin the process of working together to solve our problems. Remember your constituent's outcry....."What about me!!!!" We have elected you and trusted you to work to solve the nation's most pressing problems. Well....it is hard to think of a worse time for the hard working Americans whose future is so frightening. We need the very best you have to offer so we implore you to rise to the occasion. We need you now!!!!!

We need to come together as a family.

Mrs. Dozoretz,

I agree with everything you wrote except the following:

"But in times of grave crisis the family needs to come together, stand by each other until the crisis subsides. :

We need to come together and stay together. The consistent family is the strong family. If we are consistently united we cannot lose, we cannot fail...we cannot be defeated.

Other than that, right on, right on!

AMEN ! and thank you for saying this. Too many people have conflated party and partisan politics to religion. The 2010 elections will be worse.

Sorry, without partisanship, you no longer have a democracy, but a dictatorship.

It's going to take a while before the stench subsides. That stench is coming from one side of the "family".

That part just needs to go away and let Obama clean up the mess.
