THURSDAY, AUGUST 4

L.A. River Ramble
The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (Downtown)
7-10pm
Join the Los Angeles Urban Rangers for an activity-filled hike to the Los Angeles River. Participants will journey through the riparian corridor of art, industry, and infrastructure to explore the past and future of the L.A. River in Downtown and its place in the megalopolis' watershed. Meet at the entrance to the Geffen Contemporary to hike with the "Rangers."

Rethink LA
A + D Museum (Miracle Mile)
6-9pm
RETHINK/LA presents a series of visions based on the stark environmental realities of the present and the optimistic possibilities for the future. The opening for this exhibition will feature an open bar, a BBQ food truck, and a live set from DJ Lillyanne. Admission is $10 for non-members and $5 for students.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 6

Call for Entries 2011
SBCAF (Santa Barbara)

CAF showcases five artists from the tri-county in the annual Call For Entries (CFE). Applicants were selected in Fall 2010 by a panel of distinguished jurors made up of artists and professionals currently working in the visual arts field. The artists selected are Desiree D'Alessandro, Elizabeth Kunath, Luke Matjas, Michael Powell, and Leighton Collier Roux.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 7

Art Marathon by Stephen Keene
SMMoA (Santa Monica)
11am-6pm
Artist Stephen Keene will be on-site creating art to raise funds for SMMoA's exhibitions and programs. The marathon continues through Saturday, August 13. Email info@smmoa.org with your wish list of themes and images for this year's Art Marathon.

Paul McCarthy on Paul Thek
Hammer Museum (Westwood)

In conjunction with the exhibition Paul Thek: Diver, A Retrospective, artist Paul McCarthy will discuss the work of artist Paul Thek.
