My Barbarian's Broke People's Baroque Peoples' Theater
Human Resources (Chinatown)

The project highlights the paradoxes of an art practice founded in critique, which nonetheless relies on economic forces that are worthy of serious criticism. The installation will also serve as a venue for related screenings, events, and performances. On view through March 11, 2012.

The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (Downtown)
11am-5pm
Monday, February 13 is the closing day of two exhibitions at MOCA. Under the Big Black Sun features more than 130 artists working in an array of mediums and styles and addresses the period in American art when modernism reached its end and a multiplicity of movements, forms, and genres began to take shape. An Epitaph for Civil Rights presents mixed-media sculptures and installation works by Chicago-based artist and urban planner Theaster Gates. Gates uses a Black non-aesthetic to explore urban blight and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's campaign in 1963 when demonstrators were violently hazed by the county's police and fire departments.
