OCMA's Art of Dining 2011: Honoring Chris Burden
OCMA (Orange County) and The Island Hotel (Newport Beach)
The annual benefit for the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA), honoring Los Angeles artist Chris Burden. Guests will enjoy a reception at the museum, followed by dinner and dancing at The Island Hotel, with a menu created by the Hotel's Executive Chef Bill Bracken.

Breaking New Ground: A Tribute to Julie Deamer
NeutraVDL Research House (Silver Lake)
Celebrate the legacy of Outpost for Contemporary Art's founder Julie Deamer as she prepares to turn the organization over to a new director. The evening will feature vodka infused with locally-foraged fruit cocktails by Fallen Fruit, desserts by Auntie Em's of Eagle Rock and a performance by The Calder Quartet. The silent auction will include works by: Edgar Arceneaux, Andrea Bowers, Brian Cooper, Dorit Cypis, Bart Exposito, Alexandra Grant, Taft Green, Evan Holloway, Olga Koumoundouros, Susan Logoreci, Euan Macdonald, Alia Malley, Allison Miller, Rebecca Morris, Sandeep Mukherjee, Jill Newman, Jorge Pardo, Nancy Popp, Analia Saban, Sterling Ruby, Joaquin Segura, and Mary Weatherford. The opening reception for an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by New York-based artist Charline von Heyl. Each painting explores a mixture of authority and freedom, activating the viewer's eye and participation.

On the occasion of the publication of two new books and the opening of two new exhibitions, artist Walead Beshty and LACMA Head Photography Curator Britt Salvesen will talk about the process of roduction, the make-ready and the readymade, reproduction and transmission.

LA Opera's Young Artist Celebration
Hammer Museum (Westwood)
The LA Opera presents a city-wide musical "thank you" to Los Angeles in celebration of the quarter-century since the LA Opera's first season. The concert will include favorite arias from beloved operas, performed by gifted emerging musicians from the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program.
