For new year's, we like to host. Better yet, we like to co-host. We invite friends over to our apartments or to the convenient apartment of a willing buddy, make easy finger food, and toast all together at midnight. Then we drink, we dance and sometimes we go out into the city night. But the party at home with friends is usually the best part.
And you know what goes together as well as friends and at-home parties? Cocktails and sweets. One of our favorite ways to celebrate the end of one sweet year and (hopefully) the beginning of another one, is with bite-sized sugary goodies and coordinating drinks.
If you are hosting, pick a pairing or two and start your party late, after everyone's eaten their real dinner. Then, from 9:30 or 10pm on, you can all feast on little Pecan Squares and Raspberry Brownies, toast with bourbon or gin cocktails, and enter the new year on a drunken sugar high.
