The Tipper Point: She's Key to Al's Decision about Running for President

Maybe it's time to shift strategy. Change our battle plans. Instead of "Run, Al, Run," we need to now alter our tune to "Please, Tipper, Please."

Al Gore knows we love, respect, and honor him. How can he not be emotionally overwhelmed by the outpouring of good will and favorable press in recent days?

The Draft Gore movement is peaking. It's right near the tipping point. And the clock is ticking. Gore needs that one final push before he could conceivably commit to running for president. Who can make that happen? His wife. She's the Tipper Point.

She must be persuaded to persuade him to run. Our collective media effort and energy must now be directed towards her as well. Bloggers and pundits, take note.

Perhaps we need to create a sister online petition drive centered on her. That should count for something,

Gore once told Rolling Stone during his ill-fated 2000 White House run that "Tipper keeps my shoes nailed to the floor so that I don't lose touch with gravity."

C'mon, Al, win one for the Tipper. And for all of America.

As much as I would love to see Al Gore run, part of me hopes he won't. He has been able to affect more change, accomplish much more without the Presidency. The global respect he has garnered would have been affected more negatively had he been the President dealing with the same issues as Bush.

On the other hand, HAD he been President, I find myself asking, What if?..
~Would 911 have even happened?
~Would we be in Iraq/ Afghanistan today?
~If so, wouldn't he surely have gone in with the support of the global community, acting on consensus of countries in the region, allowing the UN to exhaust all intervention?
~Wouldn't our civil liberties still be intact; We certainly wouldn't have the Patriot Act/ FISA, would we?
Etc., etc...
However, HAD he been President, I find myself realizing we wouldn't have..
~The global awareness/ support on the environment and global warming.
~"An Inconvenient Truth"
~His amusing appearance hosting SNL, showing a side of Al Gore we hadn't had the pleasure of enjoying in his political life. I still bust out laughing recalling when, with coaching from Stuart Smalley, we heard:
I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and Doggonit, People Like Me!

Perhaps, another role in the administration, cabinet, UN or as a foreign ambassador would place him in a better position to further expand the positive effect he has had on the planet, thus enhancing the standing of the U.S. globally. I just would hate to see him lose the forum he has now in such a powerfully positive light. As President inheriting the Iraqi fiasco, regardless of how he is viewed/ perceived now, he would ultimately lose some of that image & the positive impact he has had on the world.
Like Jimmy Carter before him, he deserved the Nobel & he deserves the opportunity to continue in his role as a global leader. He deserves "..be the best Al I can be" (to quote Stuart's coaching.)
That just may not be as President Gore.

Does anyone at the Huffington Post know about the videos that Al Gore himself posted last night on the new Current website? If not, you need to get on this. It's already being talked about on Daily Kos. Go to Current.com and search for Al Gore...Just an FYI the videos are on his views about "Bringing The Troops Home, Every American Should Have Health Insurance, and Americans Deserve Their Freedom." No one has started covering this yet? Al Gore is one of the most brilliant men on this planet. Go check the videos out and comment on them... spread the word.

I think Tipper should say No to Al running. As much as I would like him to run, he can continue to make a much greater impact in the world, by continuing his work on the environment. Let the Dems have their Hillary Clinton, and the Repubicans their Mr. 911, that who they deserve. The rest of us has to suffer because of foolish Americans

Was Tipper the one who decided that LIEBERMAN was the right man for veep in 2000?

Forget Gore. Run a DEMOCRAT.

Don't let him run Tipper. The country that this has become doesn't deserve him. And why would any woman that loved her husband want him to re-enter the toxic atmosphere of American politics?

AL GORE will not run for President in 2008 or perhaps ever for one simple reason. We must face that reality. GORE is an elected leader out of power. Gore already won the election in 2000 and watched how a corrupt Supreme Court working along side a neo-conservative manipulation of the electoral process, disenfranchisement and out right voter fraud thwarted the will of the American people. At least 500,000 more Americans and perhaps more like a million more Americans chose AL GORE over George Bush but the Supreme Court, and a corrupt Secretary of State in Florida, Katherine Harris, Governor Jeb Bush all worked in concert to STEAL the election. It is not AL GORE'S fault. There must be a Second American Revolution illustrating that Americans will stand up against corruption of the electoral process and rail against the Corporate Media and Military Industrial Complex providing false choices to the American people. American Historians will not look on the Bush/Cheney period of American history kindly. It was a period of great fraud, dishonesty and corruption. Our two party system is an abject failure because while the constitution was being shredded our leaders sidetracked us with nonsensical issues rather than removing the cancer in the Executive Branch. Gore recognizes that he can work to change the system from outside of it rather than being shredded inside of it. Powerful forces are aligned against the Will of the American people.

Hey, c'mon bub! In this REPUBLIC the popular vote is not allowed to be the engine for mob rule.
Thank God for the electoral college. The Founding Fathers knew what they were doing!

So Al Gore has become a footnote to history, but in a fair way. The man lost. Period.

After graduating from Harvard, Gore served as a journalist in the US Army during the Vietnam War, then as a Congressman in the US House of Representatives (1977-1984), followed by two terms as a US Senator (1985-92), and finally as Vice President of the United States (1993-2000). In 2000 Gore lost the presidency to Bush despite winning the popular election by over 500,000 votes.

This year, Gore won an Oscar for "An Inconvenient Truth," his documentary on global climate change and an Emmy for his cable television network, "Current." Gore has capped this off by winning the Nobel Peace Prize for his untiring efforts in alerting the world to the threat of global warming. Thus, Gore is truly a number ONE (Oscar, Nobel, and Emmy) achiever.

It is hard to imagine a more distinguished and accomplished American than Al Gore. He does not need to run for president - been there, done that and won that - to prove anything. Nonetheless, I think the country and the world could use his leadership at this very critical juncture - and, there is no more powerful office in the world to fulfill that role than the presidency of the United States!

The world is flashing a "green" light for neo-Gore (that’s right the Nobel-Emmy-Oscar winning Gore will henceforth be known as the neo-Gore) and he is obliged to recycle his services for a cause that’s bigger than him. You tell him, Tipper!

He will not run as a Dem because at this stage, he does not have the funds, nor the organization to win a primary. I understand the wide-eyed euphoria but he is a seasoned politician and understands the "ground realities"

Now, a Gore-Bloomberg third party ticket?! THAT would be interesting! Having stated that and observing the polarization of the Country, that ticket will only benefit the right wing nuts! IF that really happens, he will ironically "do a Nader" of 2000!

If Gore runs independent (he wont run) then the Nader factor will be Hillary. She will steal enough votes from Gore to elect Ron Paul. If you were sensible you would register Republican and nominate Ron Paul. Hillary doesn't need you. She will be nominated regardless. Just think how funny it will be when the Republicans are stuck with Ron Paul. They probably wont even have a convention.
