Rachel Maddow Rocks! more smart women, please, and maybe TOdd Rundgren. Smart progressives do exist, so why not put THEM on. Katrina whatever the editor of the Nation. Barbara Ehrenreich.

How about it Bill? We know you have a misogynist bent, why not work your way back to sanity with some smart, funny women??!!

"No Country For Old Men" sounds like a personal slap at McCain.

Bill, the party or parties responsible for booking your recent panelists aren't doing you a favor. Is it strictly a business decision, whereby they're trying to broaden your viewer-base to include more conservatives? If so, they're wasting their time. That is not your audience and never will be. Look at what happened to Dennis Miller.

Guests that haven't helped your show: Frum, Rep. Kingston of Georgia and P.J. O'Rourke. (He's so yesterday...)

Guests who would be a plus: Dr. Rachel Maddow of Air-America radio, who has a doctorate in political science and was a Rhodes scholar. She's physically attractive, energized and very-well informed. Also, Arianna Huffingon and Tom Hartman of AAR.

You're welcome.

Manx,

Sounds like you'd be happier watching reruns of Fidel Castro's speeches!

lt,

sounds to this independent that you would be happier listing to a certain other, earlier despot who is Castro's polar opposite, and considerably more worthy of utter contempt.

Bill needs to stop wasting time with hacks who do not represent more than 19% of the population. We get more than enough of that with Fox News(peak).

To Manx, I agree with your choices. I especially want to see Huffington, who used to be on Bill['s show a lot, and Rachel Meadows, a very bright woman. Bill those conservatives are not your people ,nor ours, and why have 2 ON at the same time? That's too much to endure.

Mc Cain capped the oil search to 1,000 years.

Do you think Coulter is bashing Mc Cain for putting a liberal time table on our quest for oil?

I am a big fan of Bill Maher and Real Time but I have to say last Friday's show was just awful. Two rightwingers, one a spinner/speachwriter and the other a liar from Georgia. Bill must've had an off night as he really didn't challenge them on much of anything. Next time Bill has this tool Kingston on I will not watch. I hate to say it but this past episode of Real Time just sucked.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:20 PM on 02/25/2008

I know! It was horrible. I wanted to reach through the t.v. because no one was even attempting to challenge his lies. I feel sorry for the people that didn't vote for him but are stuck with him.

Please Bill, can you help? Who chose Jon Stewart as our leader? Not of the Oscars but of everything. Why are dollars continually thrown his way. He is the face of Comedy Central but we all know he isn't particularly funny. Okay. He is smart. He's also a nice guy. I know that for sure.
But he is not as smart as you
Not as funny too.
Charlie knows more about, well more,
then both of you.
But why is Jon the chosen one. His name as been mentioned as taking over for Larry King as has yours. But Jon is less threatening (do they mean challenging?).
I need to know why he even has a career in the business. I like him too. But in an age where failure only makes you richer Jon has become a media star and darling. Nobody watches the Oscars with him. Nobody tunes in when he is a guest on a talk show. Come on, nobody really watches the Daily Show on a big scale.
Bill - give us an Honest read on this.
Thanks.

Both Jon Stewart and Bill Maher are funny; who's funnier is subjective. But Jon works his butt off to get up to speed on the subject, reads his guest books and would not have let Rep Kingston's lies stand unrebutted. Witness his demolishing of the two Goldberg's Jonah and Bernard.

I agree with gigi. I think both of them are funny and Stewart is particularly insightful and engaging. That show was around before Stewart but it was him that made it a household name. And if he really isn't that funny, why would CBS be considering him to replace Letterman?

I guess since Stewart is now seen as "mainstream" it's all some people need to attack him. It's hypocritical actually.

Who are all these nobodies you refer to. I love Bill too but truth is you it's sugar not vinegar that does the job.

Don't care about you who is all for Bill's ideology. It's the others that turn the tide. And, it's called entertainment. You gotta be where you can be seen to do that. We can't get Bill off of HBO. Stewart we can.

I must say that I completely agree with this assesment of Jon Stewart - A nice guy (I think) amusing bits on his show and reasonably bright - but can't hold a candle to Bill Mahr in smarts, can't touch Conan O'Brien in comedic talent - and yet this guy makes a bloody fortune - sometimes, you just can't figure.

Rep. Kingston, GA is a little partisan liar; Kingston is the same baby who complained about the 5 day work week in Congress. Mahr played the edited tape of Michelle Obama’s comment. In the non-edited C-Span version, the word “really” is left in “really proud for the 1st time in my adult life”. If the Republicans need to jump on shit like this instead of the real issues of the day, than they are desperate.

Amy Walters was a poor choice to represent the Liberal view. Amy a senior editor for the Hill newspaper and contributor to Washington Journal as well as CNN needs to be as neutral as possible, or she loses credibility.

As for Jonah Goldberg this neo-conservative fraud comes out with a poorly researched partisan book every election cycle. He was challenged a little by Mahr when he blurted out JFK was naive and stumbled into the Cuban Missile Crises. I’ve heard this nonsense from several neo-conservative partisans trying to make a case for a lack of experience on Obama’s part. Retro swift-boating JFK as naive and inexperienced dose not wash, since he was war hero, and had already served in the Congress and Senate for a substantial period of time. As I recall JFK averted nuclear war by giving Khrushchev a way out after stopping Soviet vessels from delivering nuclear war heads to Cuba and forcing them to dismantle Soviet installed launchers already in Cuba. The hawks in the Kennedy Administration were pressuring him to invade Cuba, which could have heated up the cold war into a global catastrophe.

In his book "Liberal Fascism" Goldberg asserts that FDR was a product of what he calls liberal fascism having its roots in the brand of Fascism embraced by the Nazis and Mussolini’s Italy. He tries to make the case that these authoritarian dictators were liberal socialist. I’ve even heard this twisted jerk make the case that Mussolini was benevolent to Italian Jews, gee I thought Holland was one few the European countries that protected it’s Jewish population, remember Ann Frank.

Why he had two gigantic assholes in Kingston and Frum on the same show is beyond me...

I have noticed that right-wingers who are on this show are a lot more subdued and polite then when they're on shows where they can freely air their BS without getting challenged...

I saw that Kingston wasn't wearing a flag pin when he critized Obama for same...didn't Maher challenge him on this? I didn't see it...

Could it be Bill was highlighting these characters and trusting his audience to see them for what they are. Sounds plausible. Often times when he puts the skewer to someone their backers holler foul play.

I agree.

Bill, the next time some republiCON catapulter of propaganda and BS’r ask you to name just one thing king george jr has done that was unlawful simply ask them about the over 900 documented lies, distortions and propaganda leading up to the invasion of Iraq. If that isn’t enough, ask them about the outing of a covert CIA agent (treason) during time of war (an offense punishable by death). Both bush and the dick had a hand in that disgraceful criminal act.

Bush and his cronies have committed so many crimes that to catalog them all would take days. And that’s just the crimes we know about.

So, please Bill, stop coddling the republiCONs you have on your show. It ‘s one thing to have both sides on, but it is something else entirely to let them lie without pointing out the facts and exposing the lies. Your show is called “Real Time”, not republiCON propaganda time.

Yes, it does make you wonder why Bill remains so placid or flaccid while entertaining the neocons? Any logical alert person would be unable to resist holding these men up to ridicule and in fact would handily put them in their place.
For all of his high-horse attitude, often-times it appears that Maher doesn't know which side he is on or what his opinion really is, and that rather takes the zip out of much of his dialog.

Bill, I am a huge fan but I was also very disappointed in last Friday's show! Kingston and Frum both repeated bold face lies being spread by the right wing and did you not even know that? Obama was not reciting the pledge when that picture was taken, the national anthem was being played and I don't know about you but I was raised an American and I wasn't taught that I had to put my hand over my heart for the national anthem! Being in choir, I was usually singing and we certainly didn't do that! That is for the pledge and I'm embarrassed that you didn't correct these people. You let them spout off continuously and most of which they had to say was crap! Kingston just stated lie after lie, unchallenged! Much of it was out of an idiot smear email that has been going around like crazy on the net and there are many who still do not know it is all lies! You sure didn't help that situation any! You know, we have enough of the right wingers out there all over the air waves. If this show is going to become another one like them, I'll save the money I pay for HBO, which I only take because of you! I also would like to see Rachel Maddow on a lot!

I am so glad that you wrote this! I was sitting in my seat screaming at the tv...where was the response to Kingston spouting off "fear tactic" propaganda on your show.....at this crucial time of the election it's important that venues such as yours respond to the enormous amts of this rhetoric coming over the internet and out of the mouths of ignorant, fearful people.

I actually fast-forwarded Kingston/Frum until they stopped talking.

Unfortunately, that was most of the show.

And what happened to Bill's comment on the usual last NEW RULE? That was the best part, the best part of the show!
