Back in the good old days when movies were made by genius film makers and not bohemian in group nepotism, there was this true story set in Turkey called Midnight Express. Watch it.

In one minute he managed to insult those of Turkish and Iranian descent and people of all faiths. He's got a right to his opinion though, and SO DE WE. Bill.... all commedy aside, because I do admit you are funny when adressing the issues of the day BUT LEAVE RELIGION out. Because in MY opinion, you come off as a bigot.

I generally enjoy Maher but he needs to tone down his xenophobia. Turkish scientists are very highly respected by American and European academia, in fact Turkey's scientific community is one of the few in the world with a very high proportion of female scientists. And don't forget that Iran has been building nuclear facilities with no help from the Western nuclear powers - clearly their scientists know their stuff...

So, do people really think that science should conform to religious dogma? I thought that was overturned during the Enlightenment. I was wrong, obviously (and so was history).

Bill gives his take on the oil leak, immigration, Charlie Crist, and Jay Leno's performance at the White House Correspondents Dinner. The extra web-only Green Room segment is also included.
Michael_Johns: A great highlight clip of Bill Maher on This Week:
Bill Maher and his ilk in the audience find "Turkish scientists" so laughable, yet absorb everything Global Warming fear-mongering scientists here so believable ('scientists' like Algore), almost as if it were their own "Gospel According to Al"
no questions asked!
funny how that works

Science is not something that can be agreed with only when we find it convienent. Your ability to post your comment is a result of the work of scientists. There are many cultures in human history that failed to deal with reality and they are no longer part of this world.
Ignore science and you or your prodginy will eventuallly be on the wrong side of history.

Bill is well informed and one of the best progressive voices out there. He is the closest thing to George Carlin and fame and fortune hasn't made him sell out. Thank you Bill and good weed to you.

I think he's hilarious, but you are right-- he's as dogmatic in his atheism as religious fundamentalists are in their literalism. Practices the same thing that he condemns in others unfortunately.

Religion is first and always a device used to control women. LDS like to have as many sex partners as possible, Islam treats women like cows and so on and so forth. Wars, rape murder all associated with religious wackos.....I like American religion, Goldman Sachs, Enron, WorldCom, no oppression of women with OUR state religion....MONEY!!!

Women are still oppressed in secular culture. they are treated as disposable commodities whose value is quantified by the amount of sexual pleasure they provide. It's just a more subtle form of oppression But I agree that most societies have used religion to justify the subjugation of women. However, it's debatable whether this problem is inherent to religion itself, or a function of male social dominance. .
