We're sitting here in the temporary 350.org HQ in Washington, DC watching photos stream in from all over the world. They're all a part of today's 10/10/10 Global Work Party, the biggest day of climate action in the planet's history.

About half of the 7,000 events in 188 countries have taken place already. People greeted the sunrise in New Zealand, raced to clean up trash in Beijing, planted thousands of mangroves in the Philippines, installed solar panels in South Africa and Namibia, marched by the thousands in Istanbul, and more.

The best news? There's still much more to come. All around the world, across race and nation, we're sending a clear message to our politicians: we're getting to work, now it's your turn.

Take a look at some of the photos and please help spread the word:

The best 10/10/10 news was from this week -- Mercedes is leasing a Hydrogen fuel cell car to drivers in the LA/SF.

Hydrogen is a real technological solution to air pollution, including CO2.

Except it's not practical because it's nowhere near affordable. Walk. Much more affordable.

Oil companies support hydrogen research because it wastes alternative energy research funds, ties up researchers, and it's the least likely alternative to succeed.

To the mod that deleted me, if you didn't notice, Aotearoa was one of the countries in the demonstration. I'm a Kiwi. That's why I said something positive about New Zealand in Maori.
10:58 PM on 10/10/2010
I got modded for saying, "Kia Ora, Aotearoa"?

Kia Ora is a Maori greeting and Aotearoa is the Maori term for New Zealand which means "Land of the Long White Cloud"

Keep fighting the good fight. Regardless of what you think of man-made global warming or a carbon tax, you have to admit that these people are working to change this world for the better. Oil is a limited resource that will inevitably lead to nuclear war. There is too much power and money concentrated in so few hands. There have been countless wars, millions of de.aths, and way too many environmental dis.asters involved with this one resource.

As a progressive, I don't believe a carbon tax is the best route to go. Instead, let's continue to give positive incentives for investment in alternative energies. There was something like $75 Billion dollars in subsidies given to fossil fuels during the Bush administration. This money could have been used to make our energy infrastructure more efficient and to better develop solar and wind power.

Too many people use these threads to mock people for being 'conned by Al Gore'... This is unbelievably short-sighted and misses the point entirely. Believe what you want to believe.. but do not mock others for trying to make a positive change against incredible odds.

I am open to any changes as long as I’m not the one paying for it. It seems that every change has a tax attached to it. If the bill is mind then I don’t need it.

Not the same, unfortunate coincidence (although personally I thought it was funny, but dumb). The video producers are a British group that is promoting a 10% reduction in carbon footprint. McKibben repudiated that film in a post at climateprogress.org as soon as it was released.
12:17 AM on 10/11/2010
the were suggesting blowing up 10% of the children in the world?
04:34 AM on 10/11/2010
I thought it was tactically stupid and not funny at all. A few people in London did a lot of damage when they put that out. It was up only a few hours on the 10:10 global UK site, but it will be circulating on anti-environmentalist sites for years. Blowing people up for real or pretend is not funny.

What ever happened to the ozone disappearing? I thought by now we would all be getting fried by the sun because the ozone was being destroyed by humans? Huh, that's weird that we no longer hear about the ozone.
09:13 PM on 10/10/2010
The ozone hole stopped getting bigger and should recover by 2050.
unless the research about it is wrong ...

Because a very effective worldwide ban on the dispersants and chemicals has caused the ozone layer to gradually recover. This has been so widely documented and reported on that the fact that you haven't heard of it is astounding.
09:35 PM on 10/10/2010
The last report I heard, was from a year ago. I think it was on the discovery channel or something. They were saying that during the summer, the hole gets bigger. During the winter, the hole gets smaller, but overall it is staying the same. The conclusion was that it was just a natural occurance.

Regardless of what reason you believe the planet is warming...there is no doubt that it is and that we waste natural resources in so many ways.. This is one of the more positive 'faces' I've seen on the issue. I just wish I'd known about it.
Good job people!
