On today's edition of The LiberalOasis Radio Show on WHMP in Western Mass., Glenn Hurowitz, author of the new book, Fear and Courage in the Democratic Party, reported that former Sen. John Edwards would receive a big endorsement next week:
I talked to a major statewide leader with a large following ... I can't say his name yet, but he told me that he's going to endorse Edwards next week. And I think that could really [make] a significant difference. So I think we're on the cusp of an Edwards surge.
Big endorsements (Al Gore, Sen. Tom Harkin, SEIU and AFSCME) did not seal the deal for Howard Dean in the 2004 Iowa caucuses, leading many to question their value in the modern era.
But with Edwards often squeezed out of the media spotlight in favor of Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, a major endorsement could change the media dynamic.

But Edwards can't surge. The media has all ready told everyone that the nominee will be either Clinton or Obama, the inevitables. Just ask Chris Matthews. He suggested several weeks ago on his Sunday morning show that Edwards was finished. Some day maybe Americans will choose their own candidates instead of letting the media do it for them. Maybe if nothing else the phenomena of Huckabee and Ron Paul for the Republican Party goes to show that having the most money does not guarantee victory. I would so much like to believe that.
Pray like hell that Edwards is the nominee because Hilary and Obama will be toast in the general election.
Why are trial lawyers singled out for special scorn?
Not that I'm generally a huge fan of lawyers, but why is it that attorneys representing companies that bust unions, move their operations oversees, knowingly sell dangerous products, evade taxation for wealthy clients (shifting more of the burden onto those who do pay), help insurance companies to deny legitimate claims, etc. seem to get a pass?
If it weren't for trial lawyers and the threat of lawsuits that could result from actions endangering or harming the general public (financial, but perhaps more importantly, negative publicity), this entire country would quickly become what would have previously been labeled a Superfund site.
Be careful what you wish for...
Joe Biden cannot cut another country into a piece of pie and expect another country to just nod and go along; imagine, if you were an Iraqi; some ()*&^% storms your country, destroys your family and then tells you that you should move what remains to another part of your country. Move to the Northwest, so you can be with others who are more like you. Feels good, eh?
And Obama slinging at Clinton??? You must be getting your only news from MSM. Listen to what's being said.
Edwards getting an endorsement from MA? Not sure it will affect Iowa, which is the only state he can afford to run in. Which is fine by me, as Edwards has not represented his true history very well. His voting record belies his 'for the little guy' rhetoric over and over again.
For those tired of the Obama slinging at Clinton campaign, there is a great alternative!
Joe Biden's Plan to End the War in Iraq passed by the Senate (Obama didn't vote) and passed this week by the House - will go to Bush's desk to sign or to veto. Thank God for Joe Biden.

Does this important person endorse trail lawyer, Edwards' Senate votes to authorize the Iraq war, NAFTA, and No Child Left Behind?
Obama 08!
You don't seriously think that the DMR is getting ready to announce an endorsement for John Edwards again, do you?
Well, I guess nothing would surprise me anymore about how intellectually inept and professionally lazy the media can be and, I suppose, the DMR is no different.
An Edward's win in Iowa might introduce a little pragmatism back into the race.
Edwards isn't my favorite but Obama and Clinton are seriously damaged goods. I think the only two serious Democratic candidates at this point are Richardson and Edwards.
