I can hardly be the the first to speculate on this, but Arianna’s Huffington Post scoop has me wondering -- is it that far-fetched to speculate that Dick Cheney’s long history of knee problems (not to mention how plum tuckered out the guy must be from maintaining all this “last throes of the insurgency” business) will soon result in his resignation, leading the President to tap Condoleezza Rice for the V.P. position before his term is over? If that’s the case, it’s obviously no great leap to imagine an ‘08 presidential showdown between Condi and Hillary... but that doesn’t seem to leave much room for a certain Senator from Arizona. So given all that, is it possible we're looking at a third party McCain run for the presidency with a cross-over V.P. candidate like Joe Lieberman or Joe Biden? Just asking...
In any case and in all seriousness, I do wish the Vice President a speedy recovery, whatever the exact nature of his health issues. I know that may sound a little treacly, but so be it. However much some of us may disagree with the man's policies and political perspective, we shouldn't lose sight of our humanity.
