Call it love in an elevator. As New Yorkers head to the polls today in the Democratic mayoral primary, they're faced with a wide choice of candidates from front-runner Bill de Blasio, the city's public advocate, to Christine Quinn, city council speaker, to never-say-quit Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former U.S. Representative. Regardless of the outcome, this race will be remembered for Weiner's sexting and the media circus that ensued.
Capturing all of it is Chutzpah!, a brilliant 11-minute documentary film from Stateless Media. Produced with intelligence and wit, Peter Savodnik and Alex Bolton provide a fresh take on Weiner, revealing energy and drive overlooked by mainstream media that wows voters, and that at least one woman found sexy -- the blackjack dealer with whom he sexted. There's also an understanding rabbi, angry citizens, and of course, some diehard supporters.
Through it all, Weiner shows he's got game.
When the Stateless Media crew follow him onto an elevator, Weiner asks them, "Do I have to do something dramatic that only you get to see? Whatever it takes, I'll do it right here in this elevator."
