I opened my morning New York Times and Obama's picture dominated the front page. The headline read, "An Angry Obama Renounces Ties To His Ex-Pastor"
Then it hit me.
This was the brilliant plan.
An angry, forceful Obama was on the front page of every newspaper in the world, every evening newscast, all over the Internet.
The savvy Wright was giving a gift to his close friend. The "Race" speech hadn't worked. The Wright connection was a festering sore that Clinton and the Republicans were going to pick at, --- and it would bury him in the fall elections.
Something had to be done. Obama wasn't going to denounce Wright further, without something drastic happening.
So Rev. Wright decided to fall on his sword for his close friend.
He went before the National Press Club and said even more outrageous things than ever. He repeated his worst statements. And encouraged Obama to denounce him.
Obama shed his meek mild mannered demeanor. He got angry and decisive. He was "shocked", "Outraged", and "Appalled".
Wright's behavior and Obama's reaction finally allowed the campaign to bury the issue forever. Clinton can't bring it up anymore. The Republicans can't bring it up anymore.
Thanks, Rev.

It would be great if Obama is able to find a way to shake the irrelevant, non-issues. And that's exactly what this Wright is, a non-issue. If Obama was going around saying he should be president because of his pastor's work with the homeless, with aids victims, his work providing scholarships, etc, etc; if Obama was trying to convince America to vote for him because of the work his pastor/church does, he'd be laughed out of politics. The notion that he shouldn't be president because of what his pastor said is just as laughable. But non-issues like this are the only way Clinton and McCain can even hope to win against him.
Dadgum if my brother didn't call me this very morning and make the very same point.
Interesting theory BUT it will be blown right out of the water the second Wright gets in front of another camera. I can almost hear the other shoe slipping off...
Why are you posters trippin'? Obviously the article is a joke, the author really does not believe that. In fact, I said the same thing to myself a couple of days ago but in a " wouldn't that be a great movie?!" kind of way.
at least I hope the author doesn't believe that.
Seems doubtful, Obama did not actually shed his calm demeanor. His words were angrier than his attitude, and he seemed angry at the timimg of Wright's tour. But supposing that what you said was true, what is the point of your post? The candidate you are supporting is currently attacking Obama for not aping McCain's pandering proposal of a summer gas tax relief plan which would be a gift to the oil companies and SUV drivers, but provide little actual relief for most people. Should anyone really be put off if Obama uses a bit of subterfuge to avoid yet another set of dishonest attacks from Clinton.
As I said, I suspect you are wrong about this being a scheme, but as an Obama supporter who thinks Wright is mostly being misrepresented in the press, hope you are right. But I suppose it is bad for you if you were planning on beating this dead heart until June 15th when McAullife claims this will all be over.
But this really isn't about WRIGHT at all.
Its about how OBAMA & MRS sat in this church for 20 years listening to the same sermons as Obama just denounced him for yesterday. Its the way Obama must also THINK because he wouldn't have belonged to a church group that supported this I hate America---whitey and jews thinking. Wouldn't have belonged to a church group for 20 years that thinks Farrakhan is wonderful.
NO MATTER !! The MEDIA is full of praises for Obama and so now all is SWELL. again.
We'll have the one LEAST experienced to lead us and one who has BITTER ROOTS.
That is an interesting collection of talking points. It is certainly to avoid attacks like this that Obama's subterfuge, were it subterfuge, would be justified.
Challenging America and pointing out its flaws is not unamerican, based on the bible it is in fact very christian. Someone whose main concern was ministering to the poor black population on the south side of Chicago is likely to have a different view of Farakhan than other people (including myself do). If one is working to help poor blacks in Chicago then what one is most familiar about with regard to Farakhan is his message of self-reliance. If you read about Farakhan in normal press you probable are most familiar with his anti-semitic remarks and his generally pathetic periodic attempts to make peace with the jewish community.
One certainly doesn't have to have sympathy for his anti-semitism to understand why his role in the black community could be applauded by someone who has dedicated his life to ministering to the black community.
Obama seems to have joined the Trinity church because it is a church that is dedicated to good works, and because it is one that is intellectually challenging. Those are both things that reflect well on Obama. If one prefers the avoidance of contraversial figures over the helping of people in need, then the criticism of Obama stands up much better.
This is an old story...you are totally looping. Replay, won't help...suggest you update your spin with facts and view the MSM loops in the context of the speech.
If that doesn't work for you, get your new talking points. I'm sure there's an update memo awaiting you.
St. Obama a politician. I'm Shocked, outraged and appalled you would think Obama would do such a thing. But, as you see the Obamanites are still drinking the kool-aid.
And it tastes so good, honey. There are no pedestals.
Only the truth of what we are facing and what needs to be done to course correct.
You sound a bit jealous. Get onboard or troll for Clinton/McCain elsewhere.
I had the same thought. But then I thought about it again and realized that while it looks like a good idea looking back, it was too rife with risk for a campaign to try it. Plus, I don't think that Obama and Wright are really that close - there's is a relationship of convenience. Obama needed some cred when he arrived in Chicago and Wright gave him that. And Wright is an old school parochial leader who will take any supporter he can get.
Fun thought but probably baseless. Either way though, I think it further displays why Obama would be a good President. He is smart. Knows how to use public opinion. And he has noble aspirations.

Yep they are trying to hoodwink the people. Probably some will buy this latest pretense, but it is simply a political move, nothing else. Now watch the Media fall for this, hook, line and sinker. They may be able to fool some of the people sometimes, but not all of the people all the time. That act yesterday by Barack Obama was just a show, concocted by Axelrod!!!
Oh good god, what is it you want from this man, other than for him and all of his supporters to give up so McCain can swoop in and give us four more years of war, recession, and criminal behavoir. Not gonna happen!
That is exactly what she wants. Trolls tend to work that way...
If she likes acts, she really gets a treat from McCain and Hillary, they are the masters.
Very good analysis Columbo. Life is full of surprises, but not with your savvy. It is a very good point.
I think that you have been supporting the Clintons for too long. It seems that everything is now somehow a conspiracy to them, and now you are echoing those same thoughts.
