I have no idea who Roger Waters is supporting in this thing (and I hasten to note that this video was created without his permission), but when I heard Senator Obama's historic Philadelphia address last week, this song, "The Tide Is Turning," from Waters' underrated 1987 album Radio KAOS kept running on a loop in my head.
The song and the speech compelled me to take a break from the snark to assemble this mash-up as a tribute to everyone who has endured this seven-year-long dark ride; and to everyone who hopes that America can and will change for the better.
Until recently, I honestly didn't think it was possible. And even though it's only the beginning, Senator Obama's campaign is clearly our best shot to, at the very least, turn the tide against this seemingly interminable darkness.

That was beautiful, very well done. The images should remind us all why we're here, other than the fact it's still a really long time til the next primary.
e can be better.
I remember during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina watching those people, those americans suffering like that in our country. It was heartbreaking and shameful that our country let down american citizens, especially in the face of a natural disaster. I wondered how that could happen here. I remember almost being grateful that my mother wasn't alive to witness this all time low for us.
Anyway there was this mother holding this beautiful little boy "Isiah" was his name. He was about 2yrs old and she was having a hard time containg him as she spoke to the reporter. She was waiting for help from Fema...
A couple of days later the mother was on TV again. She was panicking. This time though "Isiah" was lying limp in his mother arms. He was severly dehydrated. I feared for her sons life as I looked at my own son about "Isiah's" age. My heart ached for them. All of them that were let down by our government.
Isn't that why we're here, cuz we can do better...w
Thats what I got from this video. Thank You Bob
As the saying goes, "Yes we can". The current administrations concerns in and around Katrina are summed up by the president's mother Barbara:
.metafilte r.com/4487 1/Barbara- Bush-insul ts-Katrina -survivors

She basically said that Katrina was a gift to the poor displaced people because the charity they were receiving was far better than the lives they had been living; a "Let them eat cake" moment to be sure.
Very powerful and uplifting, Bob. Thank you. Make sure you place an entry in MoveOn.org's contest for an Obama ad!
Yes, but MoveOn.org's contest is for a 30 second ad.
Bob, Please don't be put off by the naysayers. "Forgive them for they know not what they do." I'm a 29 year old white male, and I cried during this video, especially thanks to the babies in the war zone and hurricane zone. I showed it to my wife and she nearly cried as well. I pray that this country is wise enough to open its eyes and see the choice before it. Thank you again for this video. [For (fair-minded people) who are still fuming at Dr. Wright's comments, please have a read here: http://and rewsulliva n.theatlan tic.com/th e_daily_di sh/2008/03 /martin-ma rty-on.htm l ] Peace.
Yes, America needs to understand that this is not about a glowing resume', or even experience. This election is about America taking a "gut check", and realizing that this maybe our only chance to profoundly change the mis-guided trajectory we now find ourselves on. Does this mean that if Sen. Obama is elected all our problems are going away? No. But it does mean, that maybe we have an opportunity to see a vastly different horizon, that can only be realized by faith, where the only creative limitation is no limitation!
It is not about the curriculum vitae at all. This is about who is fit to lead as measured by the people. A massive gut-check is taking place and old models are going right out the window. This day was surely to come.
Good expression of the factual and actual.
WOW!
Wonderful job Bob. Timing, editing, well-done! Thank you (even though I'm a grrrl and you made me cry!) ;-P)
Seems the conversation may be once again about the positive things Obama can do to help this country of ours...if all pastors have the capacity they should follow http://and rewsulliva n.theatlan tic.com/th e_daily_di sh/2008/03 /quote-for -th-33.htm l-th-33.html
Spread the TRUTH about Rev. Wright’s sermons not the edited and parsed sound bites of Fox News…These videos are in total about 20 minutes long. But please watch them and then you will see that there have been some egregious liberties taken with what has been broadcast. .youtube.c om/watch?v =QOdlnzkeo yQ&feature =related .youtube.c om/watch?v =RvMbeVQj6 Lw&feature =related

Wow you delivered the box set of "Spin and Hypocrisy beat down" A sonata in one movement and four videos. These are definitely important to advertise.

For some reason, I hate the hip term "mashup". Kind of like "props". Hate that, too.
." I don't have any O-whatever-mania and I don't expect to get any real soon.
Pretty good video, though.
I am 55 and I think old and wise enough to resist seduction by politicians, however eloquent they may be.
I don't think I have any illusions. I stand ready to be disappointed by Obama. I could warm up my shoulders to shrug in 2010 and say "Oh, well, just another politician
So I feel like I approach this question (of who should be president) with fairly clear, independent, eyes.
Would I turn out and vote for Obama in a general election? Yes, I think. Better that 99% chance.
Would I turn out and vote for Clinton in a general election? No, I would not bother.
There's a difference between placing a bet on a horse that may positively surprise you and placing a bet on a horse that you know will only disappoint.
Hillary, I think it is really time to give it up. You are not helping.
Jim
Like Al Pacino in Godfather III, every time I try to get out....
I have been trying to logout of this conversation for a while now, but there are some great minds out there asking some heavy questions and making some heavy statements. The reality of your statements serves to further strengthen my resolve to stay engaged in this process. You mentioned horses so I will utilize cards to draw an analogy from a song.
You gotta know when to hold' em Hillary and you gotta know when to fold them.
You gotta know when to walk away and when to run.
Jim,
You make me cry. Thank you.
Thanks, Bob, for sharing access to this powerful video. It's an enhancement to Obama's magnificent speech.
Does this man lack "experience"? Some think so, others not. Does he have skeletons lurking in his closet? Who doesn't? Who of us out here have woken up every morning for the past eight years with a smile on our face and our heart filled with hope and joy just to be an American? I don't know about you, but there have been damned few mornings like that for me in a while.
If Barack Obama lacks anything, it's not HOPE. It's about time we had a president that doesn't start every paragraph with lies. It's about time we had a presidential candidate that doesn't start every speech with "I" or "ME". I'm happy to see a presidential hopeful that isn't afraid to openly state that we continue to have racial issues in our country. Get 'em out there and let's deal with 'em! I'm glad to know that at least one of our presidential candidates might have some clue about what is actually going on in our homes and in our communities; poor education, poor health care, and just plain folks getting poorer by every minute ~ no thanks to the Clinton's and the Bush's.
Preach on, preach on! The choir appreciates your soaring notes of promise for a brighter day.
Hey Obama has been to the South Side of Chicago, so he can handle the White House.
But if Unions are not a big part of the solution to health care, we will be getting conned. Unions are the smaller govt. we the people will always need. How they could have been broken while talk of small govt. may be un-forgivable.
So I hope we can tell Obama that. For there is even a better way: The Mondragon Cooperative of the Basque in Spain. Which is now the 8th largest company in all of Spain, and in that Coop, the workers really do own the Banks.
Bob, thank you very much. This is a very well done video/music combination. Thank you again.

I've cried every time I watched this. Sad. Beautiful. But what if this alienates a Hillary supporter enough to vote for McCain?
The last time I cried I realized that I had just filed my taxes this year. I know it's complicated now that we've obliterated a tyrant and left little to replace him. But how many hours have I (personally) worked this year to build bombs that killed innocent civilians? Or how much was used to fund fantasy missile defense systemes that compromise international treaties? I don't even know, but I will know soon. And I'm not shy about telling others (if I think they're willing to listen) how much they're spending to do the same.
After what MY tax dollars have done, can I afford to do any less?
God help us. We can do better than this. We must do better than this.
There is a risk to complacency. Staying the course is not necessarily all it is touted to be. Perhaps a new, new direction is required because now is no joke. Obama may fall flat on his face but I do not think so. He does not appear foolish and I think he gets the weight of the situation. This is why he talks about judgment to lead. A good leader follows and Barack Obama has stated he wants his candidacy to be reflected in the will of the people. He desires a mandate for change where we leave no citizen behind. How about that son, how about that? A leader like that is capable of starting something all together different that would be a great ride for all not just some. No messiah, just a man, a people, hope, dedication and desire; something to lift us higher and light a fire under our collective @ss—pirations.
Stunning ... Thank you.
Really now???? Obama's comfort zone in a church that libels our government for AIDS and honors the racist bigot Farrakhan is not what I would call his election as a turn from darkness to light. Even today he will not break from his racist spiritual mentor. Wow he is too scared to aleniate his black base to do that. Well once I was an Obama supporter but not now. This man supports the positions not of the far left but of the far left looney fringe. By not taking on the AIDS libel Obama shows that he has no guts.
He will take on the AIDS libel when the government and certain aspects of the populace take on the facts of the Tuskegee experiment in a meaningful way otherwise the AIDS comments are left to strict interpretation. You were for Obama? I would hate to see what you would be saying if you had been against him. I like to think that I am objective so let me just say I can understand the shocking nature of the hard issues the reverend covered in those sound bytes. I personally found nothing wrong with what he posited because I knew it would start the debate that is going on right now. Obama had to speak to the audience he is dealing with not one he is not, so as best he could he tried to explain to those who refuse to think. As for the comments read history from another perspective and get back to me on the comments of the pastor. Also, it is reported that some of the comments looped over and over again were actually quotes from Edward Peck, former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and deputy director of President Reagan’s terrorism task force.

Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingram, Bill O'Reilly, and the rest could not tell me the time. Why, because my gut feeling says, THEY LIE or they play loose with the truth!
Great post.

I didn't see Saint Ronnie Reagan or his antecedent, George I, dumping Pat Robertson's enthusiastic endorsements because of his hate in the name of God. Nor did George II have anything to say about Robertson's advocating the assassination of a legally elected foreign head of state (which is a treasonous offense. Do you agree with aeverything your pastor says?
Bob,
Thank you so much for the beautiful video!! Hilliarites will hate it because they wish they had thought of it first. But for me, it was truly inspiring. I have played it over and over, again, and set it off to numerous people after I wiped away the tears. Thank you, again!
I agree with what you said about Obama. I emailed the video to two of my sisters.
It's a great phrase: "the tide is turning". What does it mean? To which tide does it refer in this context? Is it the tide of apathy that has engulfed Americans for so long? Is it the tide of corporate corruption that now controls our government? Is it the tide of religious fundamentalism and the ignorance it perpetuates? Is it the tide of greed and self-interest upon which our society is predicated? Is it the tide of pointless consumerism that drives that greed and self-interest? Is it the tide of imperialism that has exploited other countries in the name of American corporate interests? Is it the tide of hatred and racism that seems to never dissipate? The list is much longer than this...
So, which tide is turning?
I do not know which tide but one thing is for sure we are all slated to get wet. The question is will we go under or sail to calmer seas?
Good metaphors. I think that perhaps we will go under and then, hopefully, be washed up on better shores. ;-)
Brilliant questions. Each one of them.
I'd like to know too.
I believe that Senator Obama has the greatest chance of assembling a team across party lines that can actually get something done in Washington. I don’t believe Senator Obama has any delusions about his own abilities, as he constantly speaks in terms of “we” and not so much “I”, I respect someone who realizes that in order to lead you much be willing to delegate expertise.
I do NOT believe Senator Clinton has the vision or the experience at bringing together coalitions to get things done. She has too many enemies in too many different circles to make it work. Senator Clinton as first lady in charge with reforming healthcare chose to close the door to outside advice. In effect it was "her way or the highway." Maybe she learned from that, but she hasn’t expressed any fault for that or her vote for the war. I can only conclude she has not changed her position.
Just my opinion
