I have no idea who Roger Waters is supporting in this thing (and I hasten to note that this video was created without his permission), but when I heard Senator Obama's historic Philadelphia address last week, this song, "The Tide Is Turning," from Waters' underrated 1987 album Radio KAOS kept running on a loop in my head.
The song and the speech compelled me to take a break from the snark to assemble this mash-up as a tribute to everyone who has endured this seven-year-long dark ride; and to everyone who hopes that America can and will change for the better.
Until recently, I honestly didn't think it was possible. And even though it's only the beginning, Senator Obama's campaign is clearly our best shot to, at the very least, turn the tide against this seemingly interminable darkness.

This is one of the most moving videos I have ever seen. How can you be an american and not want change from these horrible past 8 years. He may not be the Messiah, but he's close IMO.
OBAMA forever
Bob: Thanks for the inspiring video AND your message of HOPE.
Remember that word ? HOPE. That's the word Obama used ( and continues to use) to draw those ignored by this corrupt administration and the Republican Congress.
I agree ! I think the "Tide IS Turning" and my response is THANK GOD !
"hope" is the branding the corporate media allowed Obama to use. Since when does the corporate media allow any democrat to define themselves? NEVER. Very, very suspicious.
consolidat ed, privately-owned, republican -controlle d corporate media is forcing us to run with a black man who admitted doing cocaine.
Its a setup. The instant Obama is our nominee the corporate media will turn on him and make him the laughingstock Hillary is right now.
The massively-
I buy the laughingstock bit, but I completely disagree with everything else you said.
Men of the highest type, when they hear about the unvarying way, earnestly carry it into practice. Men of the middle type, when they have heard about it, seem now to keep it, now to lose it. Men of the lowest type, when they have heard about it, laugh greatly at it. If they did not laugh, it would not be fit to be the unvarying way.

I do not post this to debase you either but to snap you out of that dark spell of fear and loathing that you are under. You suggest that you are a thinker. I am asking you to think a little harder. If what you say is true —and I am not saying it is not, then this conversation, this meeting of the minds we are having is all the more important. If the elite minded conservatives are to be defeated it will not be because we did not rally the people. The people are the indication that Barack is right for me and that he addresses a lot of America’s issue just in who he is, the cumulative man; that's experience, credibility, accomplishments, and something less tangible, a feeling that now is the time. 1968 was forty years ago. This year marks a turning point in societies around the world. I am not into numerology but I am just saying....
A report in the media is they have found the stockpiles of the aids virus that Wright was talking about but unless we get Obama in there they will not destroy it, go Obama
WHAT A MOVING SONG AND VIDEO..... .......... ....
It certainly has my bowels "moving".
Dude, how can you not know who Roger Waters is??
Soon you'll wake up and realize Obama was an incredibly weak candidate. The suspiciously positive press he got from day one was a setup by the corporate media. They will turn on him. All of a sudden he will be the laughingstock like Hillary is now, and your false passion will evaporate as quickly as it did when the Gore and Kerry elections were stolen right in front of your eyes. Remember what you did about that? Yep. nothing at all. False passion.
Obama's experience makes him the better candidate. He has more experience in elected office than Hillary and more experience dodging fire from Serbian sharpshooters as well.
There is no expectation of magic so I personally will be happy no matter the outcome for the process is the goal and this process has served to revitalize me on a personal level. If another outcome than the one I pray for and blog for occurs, then let it be, let it be. I hope your candidate wins and gives you all you think they will. I do not support the man I support the idea embodied in the man. The man as all men are is susceptible to frailty and weakness (Eliot Spitzer, George Bush, Dick Cheney, Richard Nixon, and yes Bill Clinton come to mind).
I admire Spitzer and think he would have done many great things for our country. I don't think it's fair that you compare him to Bush and Cheney - they are responsible for thousands of Americans dying in Iraq. He paid for sex with a woman he wasn't married to.
So which is worse?
Well, if Senator Obama claims he was under sniper fire when he was not, the media will be right to point that out to the public. This isn't going to happen, however. Senator Obama is a very strong candidate who appeals across party lines. He will be the 44th President of the United States and for the first time in years we will have a President who represents all of us even if we live in a State that did not grace him with their electoral votes.
Appeal across party lines is a loser mentality. We need to dominate, devastate, and destroy the repugnican party. That's the ONLY way.
on/consoli dation friendly administration (repugs) in office.
But neither Hillary nor Obama can win. That's exactly the point of the false Hillary/Obama horserace script used byt he corporate media from day one: to force Dems to choose between two losers, so they can get a deregulati
alas Edwards I knew him well, and he WAS another JFK.
For starters, look at his campaign. Organized. Focused. Getting Results. On track. Winning.
Next, look at the candidate. Unflappable. Dignified. Eloquent. Presidential.
Finally, read and hear his words. Powerful. Hopeful. Motivational. Inspirational.
This is what makes me an Obama supporter.
Nicely said... thank you
My feelings exactly, bimplebean (that's really fun to say!). Thank you.
Thanks. There's no question in my mind that Obama is our best chance--both to restore the U.S.'s credibility and policies abroad and to bridge a lot of hatred and misunderstanding at home (while improving the lives of a lot of Americans who've suffered economically from 8 years of Bush).
the inevitable Republican attack machine... and the media's penchant for destroying presidential candidates over things that are completely irrelevant (while letting REAL questions of competence slide). But I never dreamed Obama would get this far--never. So..hope.. ..yes.
I'm not extremely hopeful that we'll really get this chance--between the minefield of Hillary's scorched earth tactics...
Could anyone imagine If Obama wins that Wright is going to be a member of his cabinet? this is scary
Please, give us all a break.
I'm going to write in Jeremiah Wright as my candidate for president. I haven't heard that much truth in a long time.
What's scary is that you are holding on to a notion about a man that you've never listened in length to... that you are basing your opinion on this man is motivated by fear. Fear of what? One can only guess. If you have given yourself the chance, you might sit down and listen to a couple of Wright's sermons. If at the end of the sermons you STILL feel that way, then perhaps Wright did not deserve his 3, count them 3, Presidential commendations.
if you come back to read the comments to your uneducated position, please go to this link..mayb e then you won't have to be so fearful... ... rewsulliva n.theatlan tic.com/th e_daily_di sh/2008/03 /quote-for -th-33.htm l

I agree witjh you, but look at how his campaign machine is working so far. So much grass roots support. I am optimistic. It is time for something new to take hold in Washington.
OBAMA 08
Great video Bob - thanks for that!
Very moving. Thank you for putting that together.
People, hising, scr ubbing voter rolls, ELECTION FRAUD) just enough to win.
Don't you know that when you tear down each others candidate, you're doing the right wings work for them? And they are counting on you to do it. The 24 hour news cycle talks about nothing but presidential politics. Not WAR, NOT IRAQ, NOT THE BUILD UP TO ATTACK IRAN, NOT THE ECONOMY. There is NO WAY republicons can win unless we are divided. We have to come out in huge numbers for our nominee so the republicons can 't cheat
(caging, disenfranc
Wake up!
Last I checked, we weren't doing the dividing. Clinton is, or I should say the Clintons are doing the dividing while Obama supporters multiply.
Yeah the Dems have a problem-the obama supporters have been so boorish and obnoxious the Clinton supporters are really turned off. I know I don't want to campaign with fanatics.
I remind you that Senator Clinton, herself, called "delusional" the millions of voters who decided to Support Senator Obama. Perhaps this is the cause of the "boorish" and "obnoxious" behavior to which you refer. Perhaps being personally insulted by the candidate, herself, "turned off" Senator Obama's supporters quite a bit? Sometimes I believe this was the intended result of Senator Clinton's insult -- so that folks like you would hear a supporter of Senator Obama vehemently defend himself or herself personally and find it "boorish" and "obnoxious ." But then, you also are engaging in the insulting by calling us "fanatics. " We should all try for greater civility, you and me included.
Hit the campaign web site and that will probably enlighten you on contribution methods.
I'm a member of a group of Americans that it's still OK to hate. I'm not allowed to marry. I'm not allowed to adopt a child in some states. Members of my community are routinely beaten on the street and if you’re killed there will be people there to picket your funeral. Many times our civil rights are put up for popular vote. Obama doesn’t think I should be allowed to marry. I'm a gay man with aids. My community wasn't mentioned in the "brilliant speech". The hypocrisy is breathtaking.
Can I ask you when the last time was you heard ANY of the candidates in this primary speak about these issues that are so important to you? I'm not being sarcastic. It's a genuine question.
O'bama's Philadelphia speech is exactly one that spoke of issues that are important to me, and I bet, a lot of people who listened and really heard.
He also did not mention abused children living in incest filled homes. Your community is served by the American health care system, your legislative issue as a gay man is impacted by the courts, and the hate crimes are also handled by government agencies as well as local. I have been saying repeatedly and I will say it again, that no president can deal with the day to day life of individuals in any way that would change the fact that an individual must face what is their life. Life and death are very lonely propositions if you choose to look at it that way. A president can create an environment that provides high opportunity for citizens living within to do better jobs at living the lives they have.
Think on these things and more than love and more than compassion for you and your life situation respectively. I want to help you from here but the lonely details of my own existence hold me close so I offer what I can.
Hi Mikey - - The speech wasn't about gay rights, so that is why he didn't mention your community. IMHO - it was not a matter of hypocrisy - its scope.
You are quite correct that Senator Obama supports civil unions and not gay marriage, exactly the same position as Senator Clinton. However, you apparently have missed Senator Obama's courage on this issue. I was stunned when I watched Senator Obama stump all over Texas and Ohio speaking out against homophobia. This is neither normal in a campaign, nor hypocrisy. Go to c-span and you will be able to find one of Senator Obama's statements (or answers in a Town Hall) repudiating homophobia and calling on all Americans to reject this intolerance and hate.
Beautiful, Bob! Thanks for this.
Well done!
Thank you.
Thank you so very much for the inspiration. I received my allowance last week and promptly sent my tithe to the campaign. It is important that the high and spiritual note of the campaign continue in the teeth of you-know-who's efforts to drag the country into the quagmire of 'power lust.' I too am grateful for being here to bear witness to this epochal period in human hstory
I saw Waters do that show at Kingswood in Ontario, Canada, when I was a kid.
That song has made me cry every time I've listened to it. Now I've got kids, and I am grateful that even Roger Waters finds reason for hope.
Thanks.
