Bob Nease is Chief Scientist at Express Scripts Inc, where he investigates patient decision-making and healthcare behavior in the pharmacy benefit arena; translates into practice the current findings from related areas of study including neuroscience, psychology, cognitive linguistics, and behavioral sciences; renders current findings into testable hypotheses; and directs ESI Labs’ research pilot programs.

Prior to joining Express Scripts, Nease was an associate professor of internal medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine. He also served as an assistant professor of community and family medicine at Dartmouth Medical School. Additionally, Nease worked at Stanford University, where he studied methods to improve medical decisions made by both doctors and patients.

Nease is the former president of the Society for Medical Decision Making, has served as a study section member of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and is a reviewer for a number of journals, including Journal of the American Medical Association, Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of General Internal Medicine, Quality of Life Research, and Medical Decision Making. In 2009, he received URAC’s Health Care Star award for Consumer Empowerment in recognition of his role in Express Scripts’ groundbreaking application of behavioral sciences to the pharmacy benefit.

His education includes: B.S., Electrical Engineering, University of California; M.S., Engineering - Economic Systems, Stanford University; and PhD, Engineering - Economic Systems, Stanford University.
