Robert Sargent Shriver III is Chairman of (RED), which he co-founded with Bono. (RED) engages the private sector in raising awareness and funds for the Global Fund. Companies whose products take on the (PRODUCT) RED mark invest a portion of the profits to the Global Fund to finance AIDS programs in Africa, with an emphasis on the health of women and children. Shriver is also the co-founder of DATA (data.org), which lobbies governments on the issues of debt, AIDS, and trade policies as they affect Africa

A long-time advocate for people with intellectual disabilities, Shriver has produced a series of Christmas albums (veryspecial.org) that have raised over $100 million for Special Olympic organizations around the world.

Shriver was elected to the Santa Monica City Council in 2004 with a record margin. In this role, he has spearheaded several new approaches to reduce homelessness. Bobby is a director of the Crossroads at Antigua Foundation and Chairman of the California State Parks and Recreation Commission. He received his BA and JD from Yale.

Combating the AIDS epidemic can seem insurmountable, with over 6,800 new HIV infections and 4,500 AIDS-related deaths everyday. That's exactly what I thought in 2004, as I watched government cash to the Global Fund trying to keep pace with the demand for such funds and private contributions severely lagging behind....
