Bobby Shriver has served as mayor pro tem of Santa Monica for two years and as city councilmember since 2004.

As elected chair the California State Park and Recreation Commission, Shriver helped create new urban parks and fought to prevent development in state parks.

He enlisted top recording artists to donate songs and produced nine Very Special Christmas CDs that have generated $100 million to support the Special Olympics.

In 2006 Shriver and Bono co-founded PRODUCT (RED). Companies whose products take on the (RED) brand invest a portion of their profits to the Global Fund to finance AIDS programs in Africa. Shriver is also the co-founder of DATA and ONE (www.one.org), which lobby governments on the issues of debt, AIDS, and trade policies as they affect Africa.
