Don't worry, The Meatza is the only thing that rhymes with pizza on this list. It is topped with cheddar cheese soup and its crust is made entirely of lean ground beef. What's the cherry on top? Well, it's got several: bacon, avocados, and cherry tomatoes.

All of these remind me quite vividly of James Lileks' Gallery of Regrettable Food.

I found one of those Family Cookbook from the 50/60 several years back. All the recipes are like this. There wasn't one item that made me want to try it.

These cookbooks were for those women who were not permitted to work outside of the home.

I hate to say it, but that Meatza sounds kind of good. Avocado, bacon, hamburger, what's not to like?

It's funny that the American diet today is considered awful and people think we ate healthier years ago, and then you see recipes like these that seem to contradict that.

Yes, now that you brought it to my attention, that might be a deal breaker for me!

Looked pretty good to me. If I was served from one of these, I'd at least try it (and probably enjoy it).

As they used to say in that era, don't knock it, if you haven't tried it.

It's a big cheese burger. Put a slice on a plate with some french bread and that might be pretty good eating. Definitely as bachelor chow.

I've been cooking for 40 years and have subscribed to most cooking magazines at one time or another, including Bon Appetite. I personally know that many of their recipies are awful and I don't believe they're tested before being published. There are far better publications like "Cook's Illustrated" from America's Test Kitchen; their cookbook '1000 Best Recipies' is my kitchen bible.

The shrimp tree should be mandatory at any dinner party. And a cold cut tree and a cheese bite tree.
