After her 16-year-old sister Jamie Lynn Spears announced that she was pregnant and commandeered world headlines, the covers of Star and numerous other celebrity news weeklies, Britney knew she would have to do something BIG!
Partying pantyless, a third pregnancy of her own, a new paparazzi boyfriend -- none of that was going to do the trick. Plus there was other tension coming from an unusual place for Britney -- the political scene. Barack, Hillary and Huckabee were doing some major attention-grabbing of their own,
Britney had to go for a doozy. And she did!
We've all seen her now being wheeled from her mansion strapped to a gurney after a close to four-hour standoff with police.
Her two little baby boys were there, K-Fed was there, bodyguards, a court monitor, hovering helicopters...again, a scene that not even the best fiction writer could make up.
I say what's really going on is Roman tragedy, even Biblical. Think, Remus and Romulus, think Cain and Abel, Issac and Ishmael, Esau and Jacob -- two siblings desperately vying for attention and power. And in the case of Brit and Jamie Lynn, it's an even tougher situation, they have their mother Lynn pushing her way into the spotlight to with her new big book deal that won't die.
So it's triplets all desperately and determinedly needing attention and Britney, a huge child star and the center of the Spears family's focus for all these years, feels she needs it the most. She needs to be Number One Daughter and she'll do whatever it takes to stay that way.
A shrink friend explained it to me like this "when you get that type of stardom at such a young age and when it feels like it's being taken away with her career on a downward slide, it's such a loss, such a void that Britney has tried to fill it.
First, "it was with having babies and they were taken away. Now her sister and mother are taking away her press spotlight. She feels like everything is being taken away."
Britney is very likely mentally unstable. Star magazine has had medical experts telling us for almost a year that she is probably bi-polar. When you have mental instability, mixed with drugs and alcohol and a feeling of loss of control, it's not hard to understand Britney's desperate measures to regain control of her power in both her personal relationships and her control of the media spotlight.
She may not be able to tell her sister and mother face to face to get the heck out of her spotlight, but sadly, she just found another effective way to do it!

It makes me sad to see how there is still such ignorance regarding the mentally ill. This woman is obviously suffering. Yes she is a spoiled star-but my God!
The first letter writer feels that postpartum psychosis is the diagnosis-a terrible, biological mental illness which can only be treated with anti-psychotic medication, the second questions whether bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder are possible diagnoses-so far so good-but then they show their complete ignorance by blaming the symptoms of these illnesses on the poor woman.
Our current mental health system has no mechanism in place for family members to force the mentally ill to get treatment unless they might be a danger to themselves or someone else. Last night gave her loved ones the opportunity to get her the help she needs-help a mentally ill person is unable to ask for.
As a psychiatrist friend I know once said-if you are worried you are going crazy-you're not.
go to nami.org for information on mental illness-become educated-
What is so incredible to me is how the children
don't seem to be on anyones radar. And I had
hoped this would be the year for less of Spears
and Hilton!
Great theory. Never would have thought that and I happen to think she is addicted to the paparzii(sp?). Obviously she's had her way for a long time, but it is her fault for getting involved w/ that scumbag. She has nobody to blame but herself.
I totally agree Britney pulled this as a publicity stunt to grab the spotlight away from anyone who dared upstage her pathetic attempt at success. I really believe she thinks she is completely invincible, now, because the courts and legal servants have given her so much leeway and have allowed her to run the "show" of the custody battle. I do fervently hope she is held fully responsible for the consequences of her actions and that she can get the help she so desperately needs to regain a resemblance to a life of where she contributes instead of contaminates. Her blatant disregard for her children is a HUGE red flag for permanent loss of visitation.
I have no idea if Britney is bipolar or borderline personality or what she would be diagnosed as, but one thing she is for sure is a filthy rich addict. For the first time since she was a kid, someone has the power to say no to her and to make her do things she doesn't want to do and take things that she wants - that is the judge.
Whatever one thinks about her mother, once she turned 18, her mother had no legal control to do it. Whatever you say about her staff or friends, they didn't have it either, they would be fired.
She is up against the only person that can make her straighten out and the question is if he can make her hit "bottom" or if she has to do that on her own by losing everything.
It looks to me that she isn't willing to let the judge help her turn her life around, and I find that incredibly sad.
I would love it if people stopped reporting on her - it would help her hit bottom faster. No publicity is much worse to her than bad publicity.
Great insight.
We know what a person "wants" by what a person "does."
Britney does NOT want custody. Period.
Another awareness: The only "condition" that seems not to be considered is the obvious: post partum psychosis.
Here are the facts: Two pregnancies and two births in one year as a result of her choice to reproduce. No parenting preparation or parenting skills WHATSOEVER. Bizarre behavior. Children at risk. Escalation of out-of-control attention-seeking.
Why wasn't post-partum psychosis at least considered as a diagnosis? Not as a "scapegoat condition" but as a wake-up call for "B.S." (her own birthgivers ~who don't qualify to be called "parents" ~ couldn't think of better initials??? Good grief!)and more importantly for the boys she conceived and birthed.
If B.S. tried to "adopt" Sean Preston and Jayden James, she couldn't qualify. So, why is she allowed by law to be considered their "mother?" "Mother" is a relationship term. She doesn't WANT to be a "mother." The more frightening question: Is she another Andrea Yates?
