Help! Someone Save The Octuplets From Their Mom
Lynn Spears, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Dina Lohan now look like Parents Of The Year compared to Octo-Mom Nadya Suleman. Those parents may see their offspring as mega money-making machines, but at least they didn't start plotting their children's career trajectories until AFTER
they were born.
Now, we are faced with a woman who I suspect may have planned on her children's bankability even before they were conceived. How else to explain how a single mother of already six young children, with no current means of employment, a recipient of food stamps and child disability payments, and no home of her own, could possibly expect to be providing for the eight new mouths to feed.
I can only imagine that she was counting on cashing in on her new brood with her own reality show to rival "Jon & Kate Plus 8," and her own slew of million dollar cover shoots to rival Brangelina's.
These babies have no other chance to be cared for unless they pay their own way. Suleman claims she is going back to school next fall to earn a master's degree in counseling, but I haven't heard of any million-dollar salaried counselors. And that's what you need, millions, to raise 14 children, especially when one is autistic and some of the new eight could have medical conditions that require special care.
Suleman's own mother has spoken out about her daughter's irresponsibility saying, "The truth is Nadya's not capable of raising 14 children. We're already all living in my humble three-bedroom home, and it's really pretty crowded."
The grandmother has already been paying the cost of food, clothing, and other expenses for the first six of Suleman's children. However, she is throwing up her hands at the prospect of taking care of the new eight.
Suleman apparently also did not tell her own mother that she was awarded $165,000 in a work settlement. Could that be because she may have spent the money on inflating her lips and undergoing other plastic surgery in an attempt to be an Angelina lookalike? I'm not a doctor, so I can only guess, but her face looks highly suspicious.
If she did spend the money that she never told her own mother about on plastic surgery, then it's another indication that this woman of this woman's self-centeredness. She has already publicly confessed to having multiple babies in order to fulfill her own neediness for family after being raised as an only child.
I believe she's also fulfilling a need to be an Angelina-like celebrity and to make her fame and fortune off her innocent children. It must be like a dream come true already to be interviewed by Ann Curry on the "Today" show since Ann is one of Jolie's favorite interviewers. Where is the California Department of Social Services? And where is lawyer and child advocate Gloria Allred when you need her? Gloria was all incensed when Michael Jackson dangled his youngest child over a balcony in Germany when he was an infant. Shouldn't Gloria be as upset about a woman deliberately conceiving eight mouths to feed when she can't feed them? Furthermore, aren't these babies being put at risk of serious neglect?
Think about it. How is Suleman just going to be able to feed eight babies all day, all night? How will she have time to hold each baby enough to give it a sense of being loved and cared for? As a mom of four myself, I know that every baby needs to be held a lot. Anybody who's had even twins knows it's incredibly exhausting and demanding just to take care of two, let alone eight.
Then, consider, how do you ever transport them to doctor's appointments, how do you get your other six children up and ready for school and help them with their homework? How do you bathe them all, and make sure that they don't hurt themselves? Every mother knows you
have to have eyes in the back of your head to ensure safety of a baby or young child. How does a single mom watch all eight, let alone 14?
Suleman has told Ann Curry on the "Today" show that she believes that her family, friends, and church will somehow help her out. Well, we already know her mother's feelings on that matter. Is she just as delusional about the others? Who does she expect to do the heavy-lifting of raising these children?
There is a famous case of quintuplets born in Canada during the 1930s--the Dionne quintuplets. At that time, quintuplets were a huge novelty. They were taken away from their low-income parents by the government of Canada, supposedly so they could be raised properly. Instead, they were treated throughout their childhood like a tourist attraction. And in fact, they were often on public view. When the girls grew up, they complained bitterly about their exploitation.

So, if there's a government intervention on the behalf of the octuplets, options for their care need to be weighed carefully. There are no easy solutions in this case. The octuplets could either become a celebrity attraction orchestrated by their mom, or would government intervention leave them any better off? Or would anyone adopt eight infants?

asa mom of a child born with birth defects, I will weigh in on this with some facts: Any mother who has had three disabled children is at incredibly high risk to have more. Children born with disabilities are at high risk for additional disability discoveries as they get older. Her newest babies took 46 doctors, many nurses, vast hospital resources, and intricate post birth care and more as outpatients. That does not include the mother's care. WE ARE PAYING FOR HER RUN AT CELEBRITY --AS ARE ALL HER BABIES.
A psychiatrist I spoke to said this: "Yes, I have had schizophrenic patients who obsess about having many babies. Unfortunately, once the baby is older than one or two, that baby no longer satisfies the mother and she wants another."
So many posters address her mother. I ask: why would her father support this insanity -- or dumb like a fox kind of behavior? After all, it is his home she lives in while showing off her belly for bucks and endangering further children?
What does the father gain from this situation?
Who is the donor for these babies?
What is the relationship between the family and the doctor?
Who paid for the two invitro fertilization,plastic surgery (certainly her resemblance to A. is highly suspicious under the circumstances) and graduate school, too?
And she is going to counsel others? Are we all mad?

Child Services can petition the court to have a Guardian Ad Litem appointed on behalf of the children. That person can have all monies collected and put into a trust for the benefit of the child. Chances a different Ad Litem should be appointed for each child and a trustee appointed to oversee the entire shebang.
Obviously, Mom is incompetent. In no way is she competent to care for the additional eight, Ad Litems should also be appointed to represent the existing six. A separate Ad Litem should be appointed for her. Clearly, she represents a threat to herself and others.
Any of those Ad Litems could stop her from future television, radio or book opportunities, and could also stop her from seeking future insiminations.
This is one sick woman. She should never have had one child, much less fourteen.
I don't understand why the Right to Life crowd has not rallied around her. This woman is obviously pro-life because she called those frozen fertilized eggs her children! And, she wanted all of her children. And right to life people continually shout that a fertilized egg is HUMAN. The moment of conception is when life starts. So, Right to LIfe people need to claim her as their Champion and financially support her decision to carry all of her children.
I completely agree with the mother of this woman who said anything frozen shouldn't be considered ALIVE.
I am pro-choice and this is a great example of WHY we should all be. Women who can not afford their child should have the option to terminate if they so choose within the first trimester and as soon as possible. I would never encourage an abortion but I would never stop one either.
As a Canadian I remember hearing about the Dionne quintuplets .... five older siblings, taken from their parents under the guise of protection then turned into an attraction only second to Niagara Falls in Ontario tourist revenue ... their lives were an unmitigated nightmare ... they were returned to their family whom they hardly knew ... they were marketed as one unit, even by their parents ... funny, one needs a licence to drive a car, cut hair or open a restaurant but a narcissistic loon can have children ... the doctor should be sent to jail and the children gifted to families in this country whose hearts are breaking to have them ...
I cannot "leave this Mother alone" because this is a very disturbing story. It's appalling to me that these babies were manufactured into a "litter"!. The fertility clinic is responsible for these children. The "church folks" are responsible for these tender new lives, now that they are here. Just think, if you or I came into this world as one of these children? Now that they are here.............
The" Right to Life" bunch will surely give their time and money since Nadya has manufactured these tender Lives, after life, after life, after life, after life, after life, after life, after tender life.
Any Mother and Father knows the tender love and care ONE baby requires to flourish.
She is on public assistance, which makes it "our" business how many children she has. Also, why is the physician who performed the procedure still licensed to practice medicine?
It is not our business to interfere in this woman's right and PRIVATE decision to have as many children as she CHOOSES.
It may or may not be unfortunate for the children, only time will tell, but until there is evidence the children are somehow suffering due to lack of competent parenting, we should leave this mother alone.
She unfortunately appears to have emotionally romanticized having a huge family for her entire life. She will also soon discover the realities and overwhelming responsibities ahead of her.
As for the Angelina-like thing....I hope that was not her motivation. Angelina and Brad are millionaires, they have the financial independence to give numerous children a secure and wonderful life.
I am frustrated by this woman's irresponsible thinking, considering her own financial insecurity, and she is forcing others (her parents etc.) in the position of having to take on this enormous responsbility too, when they had no say in this decision. That's unfair.
Her neglect to consider, ignore, and take for granted, the position she was putting her parents in, gives me pause. It was a selfish decision, and indicates she is a selfish person. Selfishnees and good parenting do not go hand in hand. But...the point is, right now, it is no ones business but hers and her family's.

When a woman is asking the public to support the children she makes, then it is the public's right to interfere.
Considering that they are going to be breathing MY air and polluting MY water and consuming the hydrocarbons I might need, than it IS my business. If she takes the kids the Mars, THEN it's not my business. It is irresponsible to have more than three children on this overburdened planet -- more than 10 should be criminal.

Okay, we'll leave her alone (even though we are just talking about her and do not and will never have any contact with her -- get real) if she agrees to refuse any taxpayer support -- which she is already receiving for two of her previous children, while she has no partner and does not work -- and as long as she continues to abide by that agreement...
I really haven't read nasty stuff about the children, they are innocent in this . This is about their mother. I think by the time they are old enough to read they will already know about her. I just hope that everyone is wrong and this turns out great, but the somehow I don't think it is going to happen here.
Something just occurred to me. Not that I don't have moment of reflection now and then. But these children are going to be researching their lives on the internet in a decade or so and are going to find some really nasty stuff being written about them when they were just days old. My goodness aren't we going to feel bad? What a sticky situation, and terrible to say the least.

Well, what would she say about a woman who wants to collect like some girls collect Barbies?
What is wrong with the folks who sent death threats to this woman. She probably has some mental issues going on, but these are children. They did not ask to be here. I would rather my tax dollars go towards feeding hungry children and people in need instead of bombs to kill mothers, children and innocent folks. The Iraq War cost far more than it will to feed these babies, and who profited from the Iraq War Your ex-president and ex-Vice President. We footed the bill and they got the profits. We need to take care of American Citizens in need. Even if some folks abuse the system it is a small amount of money to pay. I know what I am about to suggest is taking away some citizen's civil rights, but if a single moms, drug addicted moms and/or parents cannot afford to take care of their children they should not be allowed to continue having babies. At some point they should go to court and be forced to get sterilized.

These poor babies don't need Angelina Jolie, nor any donations from a website. They need to be removed from an emotionally unstable mom by the local HHS office in their county, and given up for adoption to families who have qualified to raise children by applying to legitimate foster/adopt programs and agencies. Clearly, this woman had no interest in the quality of life of her existing children, and is not well enough to plan for these new, little lives.
I feel sorry for Nadya's mother ,who she expects to be the 'live-in nanny', and for the 6 children she already had. The older children were obviously not enough of a 'media event' to keep their mother interested in their wellbeing.
How does anyone know exactly what Nadya was thinking or feeling? Is there some new machine to do this? Give her a chance like the Duggars have had.

Maybe Angelina Jolie could set up a trust fund for these children. I am not kidding. She has a big heart, and this clearly disturbed mother is mimicking her. These fourteen innocent babies do not have a chance of a normal childhood. At least if there were some money put away for their care (and only for their care, not more plastic surgery for their mother), they might have a chance of not starving to death. Jolie and Brad could put a million or two away for them and never even miss it...no, it isn't their responsibility, but so what? It is a moral obligation. Lots of people try to mimic the lives of celebrities; in this case, there are innocent babies who will suffer.
One thing this story has done is point out the syndrome that exists in which unhappy, lonely women have babies as a solution to their problems. This isn't new! Just a horrible mutation of it. That doctor should also be helping to support these children. Shame on him. Maybe this story will help point out the trend. It is sickening.
Trust me, they're probably already working on a malpractice suit against the doctor that will pay her hundreds of thousands or even millions for "the care of the babies."

I think grandmother and grandfather Suleman should sue the doctor, because they begged the doctor not to implant more embryos into their daughter, he lied to them and told them he would not, but he did anyway. They know their daughter is mentally unstable, and this doctor ignored their warning.
You've got to be kidding? Why should Angelina take on this woman's responsibilities?
She gave birth to them, SHE needs to figure out how to raise them. That's what good PARENTS do.

Children are suffering here because of irresponsible adults.
And to think that she planned and plotted to break a baby-making record; it's simply sad.
I cannot imagine how these children will grow up, is she finally done or does she have a magic number in mind?
So now the guilt train starts with corporations and religous groups expected to pony up for the care and feeding of these innocent children so this woman can go to school and get her masters in counseling.
This is pathetic and I for one am very saddened.
I for one will be anxious to see which corporations fund her; as I will be sure not to purchase from them.
Bonnie! Yours is a fabulous op ed. Anybody who has more than one child who are close together is incredulous! If I were a taxpayer in CA I would be so upset (not to mention federal money). Very selfish, and just plain weird weird weird.
If she gets any money from these kids, it should go to reimburse California taxpayers and her poor mom.
