Betrayal! Humiliation! Rage! Yes, Miley Cyrus could be feeling all these disturbing and conflicting emotions if the reports that her mother, Tish, had an affair with Bret Michaels, are true! Here's why!

No matter how big a celebrity Miley is -- the bottom line is that she is still a 17-year-old teenager AND there is almost nothing worse for any child than to have their family security destroyed. The rug has just been yanked out from under her feet in the most mortifying way: The world now knows Miley's shameful secret -- her mother is an alleged cheater.

"Teenagers are mortified enough by their parents' behavior even when their parents are perfectly fine," points out Beverly Hills psychologist Julie Armstrong. "Her mother has brought public shame on her."

Her mother may also be responsible for Miley's over-sexualized transformation in both her professional and personal life in the past year.

In her recent performances in three new videos, "Can't Be Tamed," "Who Owns My Heart," and the new "The Big Bang," Miley has groped men and women, writhed around on a bed, simulated girl-on-girl kissing, and dressed in corsets, tush-high skirts and over-the-knee boots.

In her personal life she has gone braless, showing off her nipples and side cleavage, has worn see-through tops over bras, and has been out until 4 a.m. partying in bars, even though she's underage.

For all those wondering, "Where are Hannah Montana's parents?" we now have an answer: Either busy with an alleged affair with rocker-bad boy Bret Michaels, or being suspicious about Tish's alleged affair.

I love how the author doesn't just quote a psychologist, but specifically a "Beverly Hills" psychologist. And then as if exclamation points don't do enough to prove her genuine outrage and concern, she links to "nipple" baring "braless" and "side clevage" photos to prove her point.

Hilarious.

"Sometimes we all wonder how things come to be. A chain of events: A leads to B leads to C leads to Z. Each life is made up of big decisions and each day is made up of a million little decisions. What shirt to wear, what street to walk on, what to eat for lunch. Now all of these seemingly inconsequential choices may change your life forever. But who can handle that kind of responsibility? It would paralyze you to think about it. So you have to trust your instinct, what the Greeks might call your character. You better pray to whatever god you believe in that your character knows what the hell it's doing."

When a young girl is hyper sexualized, it's usually due to a daddy issue, not a mommy issue. It starts much younger than 17. Not saying anything untoward occurred. A cold, critically, emotionally distant or absent father sets the stage for a provocative, sexually promiscuous daughter.

People have been complaining about Miley's adult style dressing for much longer than a year. Nice try to tie them together, but more likely, Miley acts the way she does because she was raised by parents who act the way THEY do.

Did the affair affect Miley? Don't know, but I think it's more likely that the parent's desire to cash in on her got them to back off as she became more outrageous. Think of the Lohan family.

I totally agree. Affair or no, mom and dad are probably fighting over who gets to control Miley's fortune once she turns 18. The affair could be a conveniently timed stunt story. Or, perhaps this was going on all along but this time Billy Ray made a stink so he could keep Miley's career all to himself.

This was really a very messed up tabloid level effort.

It reminds me of a cover I saw recently talking about new allegations against a celeb that he was enjoying the company of men, and how devastated his wife would be -- and yet their the ones alleging it on the cover and rather look silly with the faux concern. And that reminds me of Renee Zellweger's line in Cold Mountain:

They call this war a cloud over the land. But they made the weather and then they stand in the rain and say '----, it's raining!'

We don't know if the affair is true. We don't know how Miley, who is days away from being 18, feels about it or, if true, when she knew about it. We don't know if this would have been the only issue with the Cyrus marriage. I, too, think some of the choices made in her career weren't the best, but tying the rumors in with all that is just -- tacky.

Tabloid speculation is a running theme of Bonnie Fuller's articles. The other is trumped-up outrage over sexualized teenagers, despite the fact that teenagers have been sexualized for a few million years.

I'm sure the revelation of the affair was traumatic for Miley, but professional voyeurs writing and speculating about it doesn't exactly help.

Miley's not "oversexualized" - she's an 18 year old doing what most girls do when they're freshmen in college. She had two parents for almost 18 years, which is most than most kids get today.
09:19 AM on 11/04/2010
But Miley is not in college. She probably won't graduate high school. Like Lohan, Speers and Hilton her education has been neglected. The ones who make it are literate and find some worthy purpose besides having a good time.

miley has a job and not only that, she provides jobs. lots of nonhigh school grads do just fine. so what if she spends her life having a good time? life is short; none of us are guaranteed to get to old age. the ones that make it are the ones that are good with their money. don't assume that a lack of formal schooling equals not being smart. she can always go back later if she wants to. the last thing she needs is shallow folks sniffing into her private pain and passing judgement on her actions. all that judgement is very damaging to a young woman.

Give this girl a break, she's 18. She has spent most of her life working very hard. If she wants to cut loose and not have to mind her carefully constructed image for once, I don't blame her. How come society expects so much from these young girls, yet Bieber could party every weekend, and the tabloids would just say he was "enjoying his success." Hannah Montana is a fictional character, and for most of her life, the Miley Cyrus we knew was as well. She will be okay, as long as everyone stays off her back.

First, Miley has been acting suggestively and sexually precocious for at least two if not three years. Second: There is nothing to indicate the family values are not "earthy" for lack of a better word. That needs to be taken into context. Third: whether or not her mom had an affair, why hasn't this author come out with similar warnings about the terrible effects a father's unfaithfulness might have. Fourth: isn't extreme fame, wealth, permissiveness and a sense of entitlement enough to understand her behavior. She isn't the first Disney star in recent years to go all trash talky/walky. If she hadn't continued her contract with Disney as a tween role model she just would've fit in with other celebs like Lindsay, Britney, Paris, Katy Perry. Why wouldn't she think it was an edgy artisitic statement? Real old---the Freudian blame the mother game. Anyways, if it is true, the betrayal by her older man mentor Bret would certainly be at least as devestating. Parents that ok'd that photo shoot (controversial) and her duet with Bret clearly have a different from mainstream set of values.

Did you click on the wrong entry to reply to? The article above solely blamed an accused action of the mom, I pointed out all the ways that was ridiculous.
