If Dick Cheney wants to get a rise out of the troops in theater, he should just keep talking:

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Vice President Dick Cheney was asked what effect the grim milestone of at least 4,000 U.S. deaths in the five-year Iraq war might have on the nation.

Noting the burden placed on military families, the vice president said the biggest burden is carried by President George W. Bush, who made the decision to commit US troops to war, and reminded the public that U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan volunteered for duty.

(Jaw drops; gum falls in lap.)

"The president carries the biggest burden, obviously," Cheney said. "He's the one who has to make the decision to commit young Americans, but we are fortunate to have a group of men and women, the all-volunteer force, who voluntarily put on the uniform and go in harm's way for the rest of us."

Obviously. Now, you would think the aloofness and the arrogance would stop there, but it didn't.

When asked about the toll multiple deployments have taken on U.S. military members, Cheney fired back with a question.

"Of course it is, Martha," Cheney said. "So what would be the solution to that? I mean how would you deal with that?"

(Places head in hands; shakes head.)

Dunno, Dick. You're the vice president. How about you tell us?

The problem is that Dick Cheney seems to have forgotten that he works for you and me -- the American people. As Devilstower said this afternoon at Daily Kos:

There may be greater dicks in this century, after all there are nine decades left, but Cheney has set a standard that will be hard to match.

Hard to match, indeed.

Crimes of High Treason?..Nah! Naughty, Naughty..Yeah!

Tragically, the only Dick the government/ MSM cares about knocking the arrogant stuffing out of and nailing is not Dick Cheney, but Eliot Spitzer~AND~the only Bush the government/ MSM cares about salivating over and nailing is not George Bush, but a prostitute.....

Not that Martha Raddatz didn't give it a good try. Conversely, he chose to do the interview with her for some reason, even if punditry claims "no love for Raddatz." BTW?..I see that google searches of the interview are finally producing results, albeit a bit belated. Ah, the beauty of short-attention spans! We've moved on to the vapid question asked of Chelsea Clinton! That resulted in immediate results from google. Not that her answer wasn't a Zing! Snap!

I don't think he has ever been under the impression that he works for the people. One just has to know a little of how he and Rumsfeld engineered their own place at the levers of power in the Ford administration to know that he has always used his position in government to further his own narrow ideology. Watch Part One of the Frontline documentary "Bush's War" on pbs.org, and watch Part Two tonight on PBS to see democracy and transparent government being subverted. Viewed in the light of his record in government, his statements about a volunteer force and about Bush bearing the biggest burden are truly shocking, but, sadly, not surprising.
