Bush v. Gore: Poppy's Bad Weekend

Imagine being George Herbert Walker Bush this weekend.

While he watches the world honor Al Gore for the Nobel Peace Prize, George H.W. Bush watches countless replays that make him look ridiculous, waving his arms and calling Gore the Ozone Man.

Then he watches the evening news, when a retired three star general accuses his son of dereliction of duty and suggests that if Bush 43 were in the American military, he would be court-martialed for what he has done during the Iraq war, which the Nobel Laureate had opposed.

Tough weekend for George Herbert Walker Bush, who would probably trade sons if he had the chance.

Enough to make a grown man cry.

Bush is mentally ill.... that he might possibly be WRONG doesn't even show up on his radar.... he's genetically incapable of even considering it

Like someone --blind from birth, trying to imagine what stars look like.... on a moon light night, in Yosemite

Poppy isn't having a bad day. George W. is following in his ancestor's footsteps and fits in well with the Bush crime family.

1917 WWI - Samuel P. Bush, became chief of the Ordinance, Small Arms and Ammunition Section of the War Industries Board.
Samuel P. Bush took national responsibility for the government assistance, control and relations with Remington and other weapons companies with which Samuel P. Bush had business ties. They made a lot of money.

Prescott S. Bush - director of the Union Banking Corp from 1934 through 1943.
Union Banking Corp was set up by Averell Harriman and Fritz Thyssen to fund Hitler and pay for munitions and steel made in the US that the Germans were using in the war.
Roosevelt signed orders to seize the assets of Union Banking Corporation under the "Trading With The Enemy Law" and then a few weeks later changed those orders to seize only the Nazi owned shares leaving Prescott and other US executives in possession of the money earned from doing business with Nazis.

George H. W. Bush - Too long a list
Neil Bush - Savings and Loan Scandal
Jeb Bush - 2000 election
George W - failed every business he ever ran but has made a lot of money for poppy's friends

Of course there is more but space is limited.

No, I would say poppy is very proud of his boy who learned everything he knew from the Bush's before him.

I'm still shaking my head in disbelief over Bush 41 ( think Dan Qualye), let alone thinking about Bush 43. How did these people get so high up, so far. They have absolutely nothing going for them. America the lamo, you didn't learn your lesson so you are probably going to get another Bush 46.

I have no sympathy for Poppy Bush. He is as crooked as anybody else. Some people think he is a smart man, I do not. He was a willing accomplice in the Iran/Contra affair, but claimed he was "out of the loop" He has been aware for years that Jr. is a moron, he bought him into Yale and Harvard anyway. Money cannot buy brains or CLASS. The Bush family prove that on a daily basis. I cannot watch any member of this despicable family when they are on TV. They are shameless.

Mr. Budowsky, Robert Parry has just posted the 1st chapter of his book, "Secrecy and Privilege" on-line, detailing how President Bill Clinton, in 1991, helped Republicans _quash_ the several on-going investigations into criminal conduct from the Reagan-Bush administration years (such as Iran-Contra, Iraq-gate/BCCI, obstruction of justice, etc.)
http://consortiumnews.com/2007/100307.html
Bill Clinton hoped that sweeping those criminal investigations under the rug would gain him bipartisan comity from the Republicans, but instead it gave Republicans the freedom to go from the defense to the offense, making "moral values" the center of their relentless investigations into Clinton's own administration.
In 2000, Al Gore, not having learned the lesson, topped Clinton's naivete and failure to stand up for the rule of law and justice. Not only did Gore select Joe Lieberman to be his running mate based on "moral values" (thereby buying into the right-wing Repub 'moral values' spin), but Gore failed to stand up for Texas school children tossed out of pre-school, after-school, and health care by Gov. Bush's signature Tax Cuts for millionaires and Texas' wealthiest corporations. Gore topped that dismal failing (which is still the cornerstone of Democratic _retreat_ in face of Bush/right-wing agenda) by _refusing_ to make Bush's AWOL Texas ANG a newsworthy issue... and even worse than that, refusing to highlight Dick Cheney's sales of oilfield equipment to Iraq while Cheney was Chairman and CEO of Halliburton, using European subsidiaries to skirt the US enforced UN sanctions on Iraq - at a time when US aircraft were bombing Iraq, and Cheney had signed the PNAC "statement of principles" declaring Iraq a dangerous nation that was seeking nuclear weapons! If ever there was an issue that was a campaign maker/breaker, it was Dick Cheney selling technology to Iraq in the late 1990s... and Gore was either ignorant, tone-deaf, or incapable of bringing such an important subject to the attention of American voters.

Robert Parry is a good read on many issues. He was excluded from the Associated Press because he dared to tell the truth about Iran/Contra and My Lai and Colin Powell. Gore hurt himself by attacking Poss Perot on NAFTA. (Even a broken clock is right twice a day!).

question, poppy made a statment that if the american people find out what we did, they would etc. what did he actually say. this was only reported one time and i think it is significant. thanks ron

Perhaps a lot of this could have been avoided through education. How many of our children have knowledge of how our government works? How many have any knowledge of current events--true national and global news, not celebrity gossip? Have you asked your children if they have learned any of this in school? Do you talk to your children at home about government and current events?

How can we have intelligent and responsible leadership if we are not responsible and intelligent enough to educate ourselves to recognize it?

You are so RIGHT mamacita! Education CAN fix america... that is why it is so out of reach for so many.

It is now and moreso becoming, only for the wealthy, and the lucky few who get scholarships. Unfortunately, we know what happens when we educate the wealthy..... they become republicans so they can hold on to their money and not pay their share into society.

I completely agree RobertPaul. I didn't vote for Bush and have been against this insane invasion of another country from the gitgo. I have watched in horror as our freedoms have been eroded not from without but from within. I write acticles for the local paper, try to insert the truth into political conversation whenever possible and contribute whatever I can to whatever progressive candidate or organization I think can best serve this nation.
There are a whole lot of citizens that are at fault and they are the ones out in their driveways at night scraping Bush/Cheney bumper stickers off their cars. Don't dare put me in the same class as those pinheads!

Surely George Herbert Walker Bush is keenly aware of the damage his son has done to the Bush family reputation ... yet alone to the United States of America.

It's doubtful that the winning of the Nobel Peace Prize by Al Gore will amplify his heartache.
01:20 AM on 10/15/2007
I sincerely doubt the Bush family gives a shit about how much they damage the U.S., even if it's fatal. These a**holes are in it for the money.
02:57 AM on 10/14/2007
Poppy BUSH is laughing all the way to the bank, as usual! hahahahaaaa...

Why distract yourself with speculative reasoning when the ANSWER on Iraq INVASION has been in front of your face all this time??

The purpose of Iraq INVASION is for Bush-Cheney to spend down all USTaxpayer money out of USTreasury and shovel it into pockets of their ULTRA RICH CORRUPT CORPORATE PROFITEER WELFARE QUEENS privatizing this "war". And capturing oil fields for Big Oil's profits. Bush-Cheney KLAN stand to make billions for years on this "deal".

It's the BUSH FAMILY "VALUES".

It's about THE BOTTOM LINE, stupid.
Always look for the answer to: WHO'S MAKING THE MONEY?

Brent Budowsky,

I strongly disagree with you.

The Bush family doesn't care about things like honor, respect. They care about one thing and one thing only; power. They want raw power to enrich themselves and their cronies. And on that scores they have done very well. That is all that matters to them.

George W. Bush ia a simpleton. His father was a statesman who worked hard for everything he achieved. It shows when one is born into wealth and influence, there is a sense of entitlement. The son never applied himself to any endeavor.
11:21 PM on 10/13/2007
A year and a half more of this and then what? The next President will have all the power of a Pharaoh and the sins of the Bushes as an excuse for further abuse of liberty.

Some are calling for a rewrite of the Constitution which was a rewrite of the Magna Carta. The goal is to make our common agreement pertinent for the coming century. Every once in a while the slate has to be wiped clean and the Truth restated. Was there ever a better time than this?

We can drench the welcome mat to the 21st century in blood, as we did the last one, and set the course for universal misery or we can pave the way to a humane future by saying no to tyrants.
03:00 AM on 10/14/2007
I can't see the sense of attempting a rewite of the Constitution when Americans are as divided on the issue of liberty as they are right now. Better to fight it out under the old rules before attempting to create a new nation to which only half will show allegiance.

What if the USA no longer acted to stall action on climate change? The USA is the single biggest obstacle to progress on Al Gore's life's work.

If Al ran and was elected, the single biggest obstacle to his realizing his life's dream would be solved.

So...why doesn't Al run?

The son is a buffoon. The father will go down in history as one of the smarter men ever to hold the office because he was a knowledgeable spook who knows how the world works. Children (including most adults here) think such spooks are evil because they don't know any better.
11:36 AM on 10/14/2007
This is an interesting comment. Which side of the fence is W on? Spooks are evil or spooks are knowledgable? Why doesn't Poppy share his smarts with W?
02:28 PM on 10/14/2007
He actually did that, snaggster. But W unwisely pickled his brain with coke and booze, thus decoupling from any incoming positives. This explains how he manages to look so good to the spiteful Republicans who defend him. And being a fundamentalist, he really can't tell the difference between evil and knowledge, or, more accurately, doesn't want to know the diff. He reads, or has read to him, that Adam and Eve ate that evil fruit from the tree of knowledge.

I disagree that he is "one of the smarter men ever to hold office" He felt that he was "entitled" to the job, after being VP for a while. I personally believe the entire Bush clan comes from the shallow end of the gene pool. In their place I would be keeping a low profile. Their son and his cohorts have damaged this country, possible beyond repair. They are now grooming Jeb's son to inherit the "throne". They really believe they are American royalty. I wonder if any one of them truly knows what most of the citizens really feel about this administration, would they care if they did know?
