God Bless Our Troops Who Serve: Democrats Stand With Them; Kerry's Comment Was Stupid But Irrelevant

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Several days ago I wrote a lengthy post with the hope that God will Bless our men and women who serve in Iraq and I truly hope and pray He does.

My point then, and now, was that Democrats may be far from perfect, but on issue after issue, time after time, year after year, the Democrats have been far more committed to giving support to our troops who serve so heroically, and our veterans who have served so heroically before.

Kerry's comment dont change or mean a whit.

I think they were stupid. I think they were thoughtless. I think they are symptomatic of why he lost the election. I think they play right into a feeling among many Americans that too many Democrats are elitist. I think he should have apologized at the very least for any misunderstanding that followed his misspeaking of words.

I did not appreciate his press conference, that was aimed at the liberal base of the Democratic Party for his 2008 campaign and was NOT aimed at military families who feel insulted by his comments, and will be voting in a few short days.

And, I do not care.

This is not about John Kerry.

This is about our troops who deserve the support that they were not given by our partisan president, when he used this war for the wedge politics of division and fear.

This is about the disrespect shown by the President, the Vice President, the Secretary of Defense for the advice of our commanders.

A Democratic Congress would show far more respect and will be a service to the nation and the troops.

This is about the lack of armor, equipment, bandages, helmets, fortified vehicles that were not provided by the Republicans in Washington.

Democrats fought to make things better. A Democratic Congress would be light years better for our troops in providing this support in the future.

This is about veterans hospitals that close, attempts to cut funding for brain trauma injuries for wounded troops, and health care failures from the Veteran's Administration created by the Republican government in Washington.

Democrats fought to make things better. A Democratic Congress would be light years better at providing this support for our troops and our vets.

This is about military pay that is far short of acceptable, financial hardships imposed on our troops, greedy debt collectors trying to repossess the homes of military families, legal loan sharks charging Mafia interest rates to our troops.

Democrats fought to make things better. A Democratic Congress would give our troops and our vets and their families the kind of support that Republicans give multinational oil companies, but not our troops, today.

This is about war policies that serve our troops by bringing together the best minds in the country and working with leaders in both political parties.

Democrats have always believed this.

The President and his Republican cronies in Congress do not.

A Democratic Congress would bring better strategies and more unity and greater respect.

Two more years of Republican government will bring two more years of the status quo of failure, blame and partisanship.

Frankly, bluntly, brutally, I would to see every call for support for our troops highlited on this site, everywhere in the party, among leaders of Democrats and blogs everywhere because this is a message we MUST communicate as well as stand for.

We will now face a multi-million dollar attack based on Kerry's comments. We had better be prepared. We had better be aggressive, committed, decisive and credible in response.

This is not about John Kerry. This is about our troops, our veterans, our heroes, their families, our security, our country, our moral credibility in the world. Our leadership of the alliance of free nations. Our leadership of NATO based on decades of stratey and consensus, which Democrats historically have always stood for, and Republicans have as well. Until the contempt that was shown by the President and his Republican Congress for six deadly and disastrous years.

God Bless our men and women who serve in Iraq.

God Bless their families.

We Democrats stand with you, the record speaks clearly to our history and support, and a Democratic Congress would be a victory for our troops, their families, and veterans who deserve far better than they received over these six hard years.

A Democratic Congress will bring the voices of veterans, the families of our troops, and the support for those who serve to the highest levels of leadership in Washington, where they belong.
