Brian D. Hanley is Asia Regional Director for Search for Common Ground (SFCG), where he directs conflict transformation programs from Nepal to Timor-Leste. Mr. Hanley brings more than 12 years of progressively responsible experience in technical and management assistance in urban and rural development, focusing on state and civil society capacity strengthening, democratic governance, human rights, humanitarian assistance, and conflict resolution. He has extensive expertise in assisting CSOs, government officials, academic institutions and donors to conduct research, design, monitor, and evaluate programs in these sectors. Mr. Hanley has contributed to and directed projects funded or managed by the EU, INGOs, USAID and other USG entities, the World Bank, and myriad bilateral funding sources.

Before joining SFCG, Mr. Hanley worked for many years in Timor-Leste, focusing on capacity strengthening and conflict sensitive development programming. Prior to that, he worked on conflict resolution and governance programming with both INGOs and bilateral donor agencies, in Washington, DC, as well as in a number of Central American and Caribbean countries. He also has worked at various times in the U.S. Congress, with two Democratic Senators. He holds a Masters of International Affairs (MIA) from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).
