Birthdays and Valentines

Posted: Updated:

So we had an excellent recital at the Cultural Center at lunch time, with our master programmer Scott Gilmore coming up with a great program for the three members of the COT program who took part. Two of them you see below before the recital.

The program marked the significant anniversaries of Jacopo Peri (born 1561), William Boyce (1711), Ambroise Thomas and Franz Lizst (both 1811), Gian Carlo Menotti (1911), and Jake Heggie and Daron Hagen (both 1961) -- a fun idea we all agreed!

And as a lovely encore we had a terrific Valentine greeting in the form of the three singers and Sheldon Miller, one of our music staff turned baritone, giving a tear-jerking rendition of "And This is My Beloved"> from Kismet. Of course it is up to you whether you prefer it in its original form, the slow movement from Borodin's String Quartet in D. But it had its appeal in the plagiarized version this St. Valentine's Day afternoon! We all went away happy....
