Brian Finkelstein is a regular performer at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles, as well as the frequent storyteller and host of the LA Moth Story-slams. He has performed his solo shows in a variety of venues from the HBO/US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen to the 2014 Summer Nights Festival in Perth, Australia and New Zealand. He's also an Emmy-nominated writer for his work on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Most recently he was published in the Moth: 50 Trues Stories (Hyperion), developed a TV show for Universal, and optioned his dark-comedy screenplay Good Grief .

I am a cynical cliché of a man. And, like most misanthropes, what has fueled my pessimism -- ironically -- is my optimism. When you go through life expecting intelligence, honesty and fairness, but you get the Tea Party, McSalads, and Prop 8... you tend to become a bitter grump.

I Didn't Know Him

I didn't know Robin Williams, but I did meet him once. A few years ago, I was hosting a show at the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre in LA and he showed up at 7:45, introduced himself, and asked if he could join me. We hosted four shows together from 8-11PM....

My wife Jean and I live In LA. She acts, I write, and we both do a couple of comedy shows a week ... whatever. We're pretty lucky that we get to spend our time doing what we love and even luckier that we get paid for it. But like...
