Brian Sims
Brian Sims serves as the State Representative for the 182nd District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in Center City Philadelphia.

He has distinguished himself as an attorney and civil rights advocate and served as the Staff Counsel for Policy and Planning at the Philadelphia Bar Association. Prior to running for elected office, he stepped down as the President of the Board of Directors of Equality Pennsylvania and as the Chairman of GALLOP.

In 2000, the son of two retired Army lieutenant colonels, Sims came out to his college football team after leading them to the Division II National Championship game as their captain. He remains the only former NCAA football captain to have ever come out, and is one of the most notable collegiate athletes to do so in any sport.

A former member of the National Campaign Board of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, Sims was a regular instructor and lecturer at the Center for Progressive Leadership.

In the last three years he has been named one of the nation’s Top 40 LGBT Attorneys Under 40 by the National LGBT Bar Association – ABA, one of the Top 25 LGBT Speakers / Presenters by Campus Pride, and one of the of the Top 40 Most Influential LGBT People Under 40 by The Advocate.
