One Week After Mel...and Life Needs To Go On

I have seen and been close to alcoholic behavior, very close. I have always found that what is spoken while under the influence is the real thing, the truth, and not said "because I was drunk."

What Mel Gibson said and did is unforgivable. Those words he spoke were his "truth." This is how he felt and feels. And the cover up stinks. It's messy. He makes a financial contribution to the sheriff and shows up at events and in public service spots. He is a star, so they cut him some slack. No way. The power base in Hollywood -- whether Jewish or not -- will, hopefully, stand strong and firm. Why do I feel they won't?

Let's hope the media will not obsess on this for much longer, giving it the kind of time of time devoted to the mess in Aruba with Natalee Holloway. It becomes a giant diversion, taking people's minds of this lousy administration.

Hello folks...have we forgotten there is an interminable war in Iraq? And now other wars? This is what is important. We have gone in and stirred up a hornet's nest, as bad as Saddam was when he ruled. Then, the balance of power seemed stable. Iran and Syria were somehow held in check.

Did our President and Secretary of State think it was possible to import our kind of democracy and make Iraq like, say, Nebraska or Kansas? Maybe Bush should have listened to people like Brent Scowcroft.

So hopefully the Gibson thing doesn't dominate for long, and the media returns to what's really important. Why do I know in my heart that President Bush, Sr., would have never thought this way, never would have let this happen? He respected the balance of power in the Middle East. Like Father, not like this Son.
