NetScouts Basketball has selected Texas A&M guard Elston Turner Jr. as the National Men's Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Jan. 13.
Turner, a senior who spent his first two years at the University of Washington, scored 40 in leading the Aggies to an 83-71 win at Kentucky. The 6'5 Turner burned the Wildcats with 25 first half points and finished 14-of-19 from the field and 6-of-10 on three-pointers. In Wednesday's 69-51 win over Arkansas, Turner scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. For the week Turner averaged 27.5 points and seven rebounds over the two contests. He shot 64.5 percent (20-of-31) from the field including 50 percent (9-of-18) from 3-point range.
Brittney Griner of Baylor is NetScouts Basketball's Women's National Player of the Week.
Griner, a 6-8 senior center averaged 28.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in two victories for the No. 1-ranked Lady Bears. She scored 23 points to go along with four rebounds and three blocks in a 67-39 win over then-No. 25 Iowa State. Griner then led Baylor to an 82-60 victory over then-No. 17 Kansas with 33 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
