Why Does the World Worship Michelle?
The reason that Michelle Obama's approval ratings are in the 70s; the reason she is so popular that she joins the ranks of superstars who need only a first name -- former First Lady Laura Bush needed both names in most quarters and Hillary needed only one during her husband's presidency, but that name evoked more scary than positive images -- is because Michelle is not a phony.
When she teared up during a talk to mostly minority school girls in North London and told them that by any objective standard she should not be standing before them as the First Lady of the United States, that she should not have her double Ivy League education, not even the most rabid Obama-haters could say that moment resembled a Bill Clinton-bite-his-lower-lip routine.
Michelle is from a working class family; her father really did tend to the Chicago's boilers; her father really did need to work for the Daley machine as a precinct captain to get his promotions; neither parent went to college, on her father's side, not too many generations back her forbears slaved -- as slaves -- on the master's rice plantation in South Carolina. I spent several months writing a profile of Michelle for Chicago Magazine and on the issue of her background it all checked out.
Think of another top member of the Obama team -- the man who tells everyone he's just Joe and who reacted to a former Senate colleague who used the honorific "Vice President" with the words, "give me a fucking break" -- Joe Biden, whose father had money, then lost it, and eventually sold real estate and managed a car dealership. Biden blew his best shot at winning his party's nomination for president in 1988 by claiming in August, 1987, that his ancestors had worked the coal mines in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He stole the story -- hook, line and paragraph -- from a passionate speech delivered by British Labor Party leader Neil Kinnock, whose forbears had actually worked in the coalmines.
Michelle is just getting started; she will play a huge role in her husband's administration and it will be about much more than fashion -- although what woman didn't smile when Michelle told New York Times reporter Marian Burros, "He's always asking: 'Is that new? I haven't seen that before'"?
"It's like, Why don't you mind your own business? Solve world hunger. Get out of my closet." (When I was writing about Michelle, her friends told me that if there's one thing Barack disliked more than his daughters watching television, it was shopping.)
All Michelle needs to do to truly affect the national agenda and conversation is never, ever lose sight of her roots. So far, so good.

Michelle is t a sensation to the world as it discovers to their own shock that a black women is an intelligent moral ,gracious and attractive person. EVERYTHING we have been to believe by the MSM and our culture that a black woman is not.
I like Michelle and all but that's e xtreme...she is not that great.

What about being Harvard-educated, a successful corporate lawyer and simultaneously a great mother and supportive wife is "not that great"? What the H are your standards for greatness? Who's more impressive than Michelle? Please name a first lady of this stature, here or elsewhere.
You forget to mention Princeton University educated in addition to captivating the global stage while being the First African American First Lady. That's pretty d.arn great, if not short of exceptional...
The news media has been ridiculas. She is a bright, accomplished woman, not a godess.
I think you're right. Part of what people find so attractive about her is that she's "real." It's easy to imagine she and her mother her laughing when they see her described with this sort of hyperbole.

Michelle Obama is 'worshiped' because she is married to Barack Hussein Obama; she isn't Laura Bush & Barack Hussein Obama now is POTUS, not George W Bush. CF's blog gives other reasons people like Michelle. One could write a multiple volume work of praise for Ms Obama. It is possible that other volumes of praise will be written about Ms Obama in the future. You can bet on that.
So your argument is that people like her because she is President Obama's wife and she is not Laura Bush. Did the America Hate Laura Bush cause she was well liked so your argument doesnt hold. So becasue people like Obama they automatically like her. Do you mull over and think what you are writing. Maybe they like her because she is accomplished she manage to balance work chldren and a successful marriage. Heck maybe they like her because they identify with her. She didnt come from wealth she grew up in a working class neighborhood.
To say that they like her because they like Obama is to say that folks hate Laura Bush because they hate George Bush which is NOT TRUE.

Hell no, I have no friends in a circle, line or gob. If anybody was to say anything good about me I'd think that they'd say something good about you too. Michelle has more substance in her little finger than you have in your.......
She gave that same speech in the SE DC school and on the campaign trail, ok? Her childhood was nothing like those of the truly poor children she spoke to. She would have gotten nowhere without Affirmative Action, but she takes all the credit for herself.
So far she's photo opps and rehashed speeches and she is not reaching out to all children, or even all disadvantaged children. Haven't seen her go near an Indian reservation yet. A very limited message with a very limited audience so far.

For your info, Affirmative Action had nothing to do with the success of FL Michelle or President Obama. They are very smart, and got into school on their grades. Michelle has said, she strived to make "A's" in school. She earned her way into Prince and Harvard and so did Mr. President.

EDIT: She earned her way into Princeton, and Harvard, and so did Mr. President at Columbia, and Harvard. Affirmative Action had nothing to do with it.
