Mockingjay Part 2 is the best of the Hunger Games Trilogy. It is thrilling. A nail biter. After two movies based on the same source material, one would think, 'Enough.' But Mockingjay Part 2 surprises and proves the ending of this saga is the most powerful. The war of Panem escalates against the Capitol and President Snow (Donald Sutherland). It is up to Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her trusty bow and arrow to save the day. See the film to find out if, indeed, she does. Discussing the plot will only spoil your viewing. Francis Lawrence's direction is masterful. The sets are over the top.
Katniss remains in love with Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) but flirts with Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth). While Peeta is a weak character at times, one wonders why Katniss would be so enamored with him, but his character's weakness is no reflection of Hutcherson's acting ability which is nimble. But it is playboy type Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) who is the eye candy for the ladies, however, his acting does not lack because of his pretty boy status. Seeing the film will tell you whom Katniss chooses as both Peeta and Gale court her. This film could aptly be titled, "Ladies Choice", but it is President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore) who almost steals the film with her steely eyes that project the ice flowing through her veins. Still as before, it is Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence who makes this her film and who shows more emotion through here gaze than any script could create with words. She is in most of the scenes and it would be hard to imagine her absence in any one. Plutarch (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) again appears in too brief an appearance which only serves to remind one of his brilliance. Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) is also only seen in a small role, but he is always competent and his own kind of female eye candy. Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) appears too briefly in Oscar worthy costumes while Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci) is chilling as he announces the progress of the Hunger Games projected on giant screens throughout Panem. Beetee (Jeffrey Wright) is powerful in his minor role while Cressida (Natalie Dormer) who is filming the Hunger Games for President Snow is a vision with her tattoos running from her neck to the top of her half shaved head and whose appearance adds to the revulsion of terror and violence.
On GMA Donald Sutherland said, "Mockingjay Part 2 is a wonderful Anti War picture. If people would get up and organize, it would be a true success."
With the threat of Isis declaring war globally, the time for the Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 is now. It would be simplistic to think as Sutherland espouses that taking an Anti War stance will protect against tyranny. Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 gives hope that standing up to terrorists is about surviving
