308,807 people responded to America Online's (AOL) poll about last night's Vice Presidential debate, as of 8:00 MDT. 46 % thought Palin won. 46 % thought Biden won, leaving 24,600+ opting that it was a draw.
Asked who would make a better VP? Biden got 49% of the poll numbers. Palin received 47%, with 4% undecided.
It is a good bet that the thousands of people who responded to the above questions are the same ones that contribute to AOL "opinions", the area provided to comment on major news blurbs. I spent an hour scrolling down through them in the attempt to see why they were prone to vote the way they did. Here some are to allow you to get to know some of the folks who will be voting in 2008.
Obviously two of the commenters - 'Connie' and 'Jane' - were not watching the same debate. Connie said: "Biden was the winner. Palin never gave a direct answer. She sounded programmed. And could she learn how to pronounce 'nuclear.' Jane said: "Palin was clearly the best. She answered the questions more directly. She is a breath of fresh air." Another user, posting as 'Fashionplateinc,' said: "Sarah rocked. She is authentic and real." "Ronna60" thought Palin seemed fake, a "joke." User 'TJSylray' saw Palin as funny, cutesy, not what I'm looking for in a VP.
User 'OldCenturian' said Biden won. He answered the questions with facts. Palin "spouted superficialities." 'MJ2Threes' wrote that Palin followed a script, and had the same Republican sarcastic and condescending tone. User Millioni said: Palin, "lies with enthusiasm." 'Griley75' wrote that she lied about who Obama will tax, and even after Biden corrected her, she just kept repeating it.
'OldCenturaian' also said: She is a "good character actress, all hat, no cattle." User John saw Palin as mom, wife and someone who won't give up her principles. "Mom" was the winner. User JustPicky: "Big Mouth Palin...who just kept repeating herself." Chrisma said the debate was like watching a real VP and one of "the characters from Fargo."
Not hard to guess what user 'Bushizajoke' might contribute, but here it is: "Your (sic) not in Wasillia anymore." She speaks with "rehearsed script." And, "Fox acts like she is ready to be made Queen." User 'Cricket' thought Palin's comment that she "used to be middle class," made it seem as if she has risen far above us.
User 'Laughalot' cited that Palin kept saying go forward. That is understandable, why would she bring up her party's big mess. She is a part of "THEIR TEAM."
User XO watched the debate three times trying to find something knowledgeable from Sarah Palin. BigTony still thinks Obama has no experience. And why, several mentioned, was that baby up so late at night? Why would this "mom" hand the baby to a little child, up way past HER bedtime?
