A 'Fighter' in the White House

If you've been listening to the pundits, the campaign staff and the candidate herself, Hillary's pugilistic display is a prime reason to back her. Surely we want this fighter in the White House. It doesn't matter that the election numbers are overwhelmingly against her. It doesn't matter that party leaders and political experts are screaming about the damage to the Democratic Party. Pay no heed to glaring reality; damn the torpedoes -- full speed ahead.

Who does this remind you of? Who else is a fighter in the face of overwhelming opposition? Who else listens to no one holding contradictory opinions? Is there another politician who ignores the numbers, the advice of experts and the popular consensus on critical issues?

Can you say 'George Bush'?

Yes, Hillary has displayed great tenacity. Yes, she is impressive in her drive and commitment to her campaign. But these characteristics are not inherently valuable. We have an outstanding example of this residing in the White House right now.

It's still unclear to me exactly whom she's so determined to fight, and why fighting is more productive and effective than creating agreement and consensus so that everyone walks away w/ something in hand. It's easy to see how she screwed up health care in 1993: she just came out swinging and demanding and hectoring. And got nothing, for any of us.

They say Hillary shows strength that she is a fighter. I believe that she has shown poor sportmanship, that she will do or say anything to acquire what she wants and that is the power of being the President. She is not for the people, she is for herself and her husband's legacy. It is so clear that Obama has shown great strength and courage in the way he has dealt with everything that was thrown at him during his run for President. He has shown great strength and courage not going negative and he could easily have done that especially with all the baggage and questionable connections that the Clintons carry with them. But he has shown us that he can talk the talk and walk the walk. He has been honest with the American people, where Hillary finds it so easy to lie to us with a smile on her face and a laugh. Obama has shown more strength and courage than Hillary could ever do. She is now running for pity and sympathy votes and that is so sad. And once again she bring race into her campaign so here we go again.

Amen brotha, for HIllary, it is ALL about POWER!!!! Nothing else. She is OWED the Presidency and damn everyone else.

Very Good point, Catherine! She is tough headed and doesn't listen and doesn't display any wisdom. That's exactly why her health care reform failed in the first Clinton term. She did not learn since then. Who needs this person as president?
Where are the adults in the democratic party? Hillary is behaving like a 2 year old having a temper tantrum and refusing to leave the party. When my daughter was this age, after trying to reason for 5 minutes I would just grab her in my arms kicking and screaming and leave. Someone needs to do that. Why is the party paralyzed watching this and doing nothing? Are they afraid of the Clintons? this is just absurd!

Have we had a presidential candidate who was totally unqualified (part-time governor/ first term Senator who ran almost unopposed); whose record and actions (claims he's against a war he never voted against funding, how brave) show no relation to his rhetoric (uniter,compassionate/ uniter, change); an overwhelming but unexamined money advantage; running on a cult of personality, with an arrogant disdain for a fawning media afraid to point out his obvious flaws for fear of attacks by campaign-motivated highly ethusiastic interest groups ( religous fanatics, flag wavers/ blacks, Oprah fans,Hillary Haters)?

Pretzel Boy ring a bell?

Go play in the shallow end "Judge"...

Let's see.... Don't like the fact that your candidate is losing? Make up stuff about the other guy and pretend it's true. Make sure to use a lot of loaded words, like "arrogant" and "cult" whether they apply or not.

"An overwhelming, but unexamined money advantage"? The simple truth is that more people have voted for Obama with their wallets. (Note I said "more people"; it's not simply that he's had more money contributed, but that it's come from a very large group of supporters.) Why is this negative?

"A fawning media afraid to point out his obvious flaws...."? Right. Like George Stephanopolous? The media apparently has gone right past his "obvious flaws" (please enlighten us) to conjuring up flaws. No one could witness the ridiculous feeding frenzy over Rev. Wright and come away thinking the media was in the tank for Obama. No one but a Hillary fan, I suppose.

And what's the deal with "part-time governor"? To whom are you referring?

THE LINE ITEM VETO - POWER TO THE PRESIDENT '08

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO IS ELECTED PRESIDENT - THEY CAN BE AS TOUGH AS NAILS.

NOT UNTIL THE PRESIDENT HAS THE LINE ITEM VETO DOES HE HAVE POWER TO BRING ABOUT THE CHANGES AMERICA NEEDS..

IF WE REALLY CARE ABOUT OUR CHILDREN AND OUR GRANDCHILDREN - GIVE OUR INCOMING PRESIDENT (WHOEVER THEY MAY BE) THE LINE ITEM VETO.

WITHOUT THE LINE ITEM VETO - IT'S BUSINESS AS USUAL.

Yeah, because the thing we need most in this country is to unbalance our government even further by granting even more power to the already dominant executive branch. Our executive branch is already able to break the law at will. Now you want to give it the power to write the laws too?

You need to stop parroting right-wing propaganda and start thinking for yourself.

PS - WHEN YOU WRITE IN ALL CAPS, IT HAS THE SAME EFFECT AS WRITING "IGNORE ME. I'M A FOOL" ON YOUR FOREHEAD.

You echo my thoughts exactly. What we need is a thinker, not a fighter. I am shocked at the Pavlovian media who swallow it whole and spin it back out mindlessly.

It's similar to the myth that she is tough. If she were tough, she would not have whined - successfully I might add - that the media were against her. She wouldn't have whined about neing asked the first question in debates. What she is is Nasty, Not Tough. There is a world of difference.

Barack, on the other hand, is tough - not nasty like her.

She's a lot like bush - hard-headed and fails to recognize the value of "experts" . (hence her gas tax debacle). I don't want a bully - I want someone with brains and intelligence - and common sense - to get us through what's ahead. This "fighter" crap is way over rated - and the bush presidency is lving proof.

Thank you for a perfect post, Catherine.

If Senator Clinton were to look into a mirror today, she indeed would see the image of George W. Bush staring right back.

Now if that doesn't cause her mascara to run, I don't know what will.

Democrats all: We need to stay true to our convictions and unite to change this awful mess we're in! It's only getting worse, and we will lose the race entirely if this continues much longer!

OK. Say snotty things about Hillary all you want. You people go right ahead -- but be warned: When she gets the nomination, you'll be sorry.

Hillary and her investigative team have an "October surprise" to drop, very soon. It will devastate Obama, bringing to light some very unsavory activities in his personal past. I know of what I speak. I have been active in the Hillary campaign, and I have personally heard this information being discussed. I know what the story is. And it's bad.

And when the SuperDelegates switch to Hillary, and she's nominated in Denver -- these tacky stories and comments will be dealt with. Dealing with Bill's bimbo eruptions was nothing -- just wait for the payback on this. You've been warned.

Hillary '08!!!!!!!

Wow! Your comments make me sad that you are filled with such anger and rage. And, they are a true reflection of why people are no longer (like myself) supporting Senator Clinton.

If you have children or nieces or nephews, that you do not tell them that the only way to win or get ahead is through the destruction and malignment of others. That attitude is what has brought America to where it is today.

If Sen. Clinton has not learned anything she should see that people are sick and tired of these huge "October Surprise" tactics. She should take a lesson from Mike Huckabee who when he had the opportunity to real get into the mud with Mitt Romney decided that it was not worth it if it would cost him his own conscience and soul.

Review your comments and re-examine what your saying. You seem to reap great joy out of the potential of your candidate deliberately seeking a way to decimate this man. How Sad!!!

Let a little love in your heart. You can still support your candidate but you don't have to hate Sen.Obama in the process.

Best Wishes to you!

Gee, blatant threats from delusional supporters. No, that doesn't also sound like good ol' Bushy now does it? For a name like "Smartey" you sure are pretty dumb.

First of all, if there actually was an "October Surprise" the Clintons had on Obama, don't you think they would have dropped it BEFORE her must wins in Indiana and N.C.? And why would you honestly think a low level volunteer such as yourself would even be privy to such important information, especially in such a top-down operation such as the Clinton campaign? Face it, your girl lost. Now if you want to go and support McCain, be my guest. I have no problem with that. It's not like I wouldn't have abandoned the Democratic Party if they had nominated the hack that is your candidate. But if you're going to actually threaten Obama supporters as if this were some authoritarian country, than you can go to hell. I'd be glad if you switched parties because your words signify the polar opposite of being a liberal. And we don't need the likes of you anywhere near the movement as we finally begin to steer America out of the ditch she's been in for the past 15 years.

When was the last time we heard these ominous, vaugue threats of an October surprise? Seems to me, Karl Rove´s optimism in the face of overwhelming reality right before the 06 elections regarding the house and senate resulted in the chattering classes fear of a political bomb in October. The result- both the house and the senate ended up democratic. So pardon us if we don´t cower in fear from these imaginary threats this time.

Put up or shut up.

These kinds of rumors surround every presidential campaign. In 1988, the Dukakis campaign was supposed to be ready to produce the guy who sold pot to Dan Quayle. In 2000, George W. Bush was supposed to have paid for somebody's abortion. And, if I had a dime for every reported "love child" of Ronald Reagan, I'd be rich.

If you know something, say it. Otherwise stop the rumor mongering.

A fighter but to what end. More polarizing from Hillary.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:04 PM on 05/08/2008

Hillary was reelected in the NY Senate race by a 67% plurality including upstate Conservatives.
How polarizing is that? She has been voted most admired woman in the world for years. She worked with Sen. Lindsey Graham, who had prepared the impeachment papers against Bill, to pass legislation that gave military benefits to National Guardsmen who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan and to increase the death benefit for the families the left behind from $12,000 to $l00,000 to help those families through the financial crisis of losing the bread winner. I bet you Obamanuts who criticize her so brutally have no idea what she has done for people. What has Saint Obama done?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:44 AM on 05/11/2008

Another possible similarity: I bet that if Sen. Clinton did become president she would find all the power that the Bush Administration has usurped to the executive branch too, too tempting to renounce. This is one of the reasons why I am such a fervent fan of Sen. Obama. If there is one time in the history of the United States when you need a constitutional law expert as your president this is it. First of all, he will understand the extent of the same. Secondly, he will understand the steps necessary to repair it. Thirdly, he will implement those steps.

To all Hillary Supporters. We don't hate Hillary. we hate her lies. If you are going to vote McCain if hillary is not the nominee i don't buy it. Those that threaren that are republicans anyway. no true democat will do that. True democats think about "roe v wade" reversals. "civil rights" reversals. McCain just voted against women receiving "equal pay " bill. who do you think you are kidding. You know that hillary is a coperate canidate ie NAFTA.

Why would a canidate take their name of the ballot? especially when Obama was running a 50 state campaign. and "he wanted to" is NOT an answer.

You heard Hillary say that "fl and Mi "would not matter" she is also said "this will be rapped-up by Feb 5, anyway" Where was her outrage about "counting the FL and MI votes" then? HILLARY's Mistakes not Obamas. Obama DID NOT move-up FL and MI primaries, then take his name off the ballot. Not Hillary is pushing it Obama's fault. and you repeat this deeply flawed spin.

Obama has WON/EARNED the nomination. Hillary did not WIN/EARNED IT. Do you Hillary supporters expect it to be given to her because she is a she? If you all cannot give a good answer without repeating hillary's spin, Proves to all that you are not true democrats to begin with.

No Hillary supporters DO NOT EXPECT her to be GIVEN the prize that MEN have been given since the inception of this country! BELIEVE me - we don't have to even know Hillary Rodham Clinton to know what she's had to go through to EARN THIS PRIZE!!!

BUT I'M CURIOUS! It seems clear that YOU think THE PRIZE SHOULD BE JUST GIVEN TO OBAMA without the typical competition!!! Otherwise why would YOU and so many of the otherwise and mostly hateful Obama supporters be so ANXIOUSLY OBSESSIVE about HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON giving up this legitimate race!!!!!? Do you have ANY REAL belief in your candidate or what?

"BUT I'M CURIOUS! It seems clear that YOU think THE PRIZE SHOULD BE JUST GIVEN TO OBAMA without the typical competition!!! "

Who said anything about giving it to him without the typical competition. We've had a lot far more competition in this primary than what is "typical". No one said anything about just giving it to him.

All we want is for Hillary supporters to take off the blindfolds and realize that he has already won. He is mathematically assured to have won more states, more delegates, and more popular votes than her. Do you honestly think that super delegates will be stupid enough to take the nomination away from the candidate that THE PEOPLE HAVE CHOSEN, and just GIVE it to the runner-up?

Enough is enough. You've lost. It's time to move on.

"we don't have to even know Hillary Rodham Clinton to know what she's had to go through to EARN THIS PRIZE!!!"

How has Hillary "EARN[ed] THIS PRIZE"?

Has she won the most delegates? - NO

Has she won the most popular votes? - NO

Has she won the most states? - NO

Has she demonstrated ANY reason why the super delegates should overrule the will of the people? - NO

"Otherwise why would YOU and so many of the otherwise and mostly hateful Obama supporters be so ANXIOUSLY OBSESSIVE about HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON giving up this legitimate race!!!!!? Do you have ANY REAL belief in your candidate or what?"

Because we have seen the depths that she will sink to in order to win. We don't trust her to not try and sabotage the election in November so that she can run again in 2012. It would be a lot easier to win in November if Obama doesn't have to run against both McCain and Hillary at the same time.

That being said, I firmly believe that even if Hillary tries to sabotage the election, Obama will still win. He's been running this entire primary from a severely handicapped position, against multiple opponents; Hillary (who has had help from Rush Limbaugh), the MSM, Bill Clinton and the enormous political machine he has built up, and all of the entrenched allies and special interest groups that the Clinton's have developed over the past 16 years.

Guess what? He still won.
