The Rove and Gonzales Resignations Are Tied Together

Exactly two weeks ago when Rove resigned I predicted on our show that Gonzales would resign in a couple of weeks because they didn't want it to seem like Rove left after Gonzales -- because then it would seem like it was all tied to the US attorneys investigations (and the larger Hatch Act violations).

This resignation was designed and agreed to weeks ago. It played out exactly as I predicted (you can watch the video here).

If Gonzales had resigned first and then Rove after him, it would have looked like they were both running away from the investigations (which is exactly what they are doing). But if Rove resigned first, then they could play it like the Rove resignation had nothing to do with the investigations and he chose to leave on his own terms.

The press shouldn't let them get away with this. The resignations have nothing to do with spending more time with the family; they have everything to do with Congressional subpoenas and the US attorneys investigation.

Most importantly, the Democrats shouldn't let them get away with this. They should continue the investigations to see where it leads anyway. If crimes have been committed by Rove and Gonzales (and people higher than them), they should be fully investigated whether some of these people are still in government or not.

My guess on the Rove & Gonzales exits relates to a blogger on Daily Kos a few weeks ago. It was a very interesting discussion on the supposedly erased RNC emails and a blogger who claimed that the emails have been rescued from oblivion and will make their debut soon. Can we only hope that they have been retrieved and this could be true? Time will tell.

I still think voter fraud is at the heart of it.

so-yeah that would be why Rove would want to go-with the ties to Ark.

We need to get to the bottom of all this.
For the country's sake.

"The Base" needs to be exposed.
I want to know their names and where
they are located.

We don't need any "political Taliban" in this country.

one "sheeple" at a time.

Dear Brother Cenk,

Great call, yet I am afraid the Democratic Leadership will quash the investigations. Don't look forward for any accountability, sorry. Agape.

A proper assessment, Cenk,

I, too, had suggested the same way back when Rove left. No matter how the Bushies spin this whole business, the American People know the real reasons. Hopefully tomorrow's History texts will tell the True Story for future generations to contemplate.

To those on this thread who constantly belittle the Congressional Democrats I would like to suggest you pay more attention to the wants and needs of the Constitutional duty the Democrats are fulfilling daily. To suggest that these resignations are mere happenstance based on Rove's and Gonzales' personal preference is wantonly naive. Great pressure, and "Offers they couldn't refuse" were the underlying cause no matter what Trolls say here.

And, Democrats who are "afraid" and "scared" of this-and-that should be banned from comments altogether. Draconian, I know, but Fear is what it has always been, i.e., a fantasy.

Cenk, I think your prediction was based on the belief that Rove and Gonzales were fleeing town ahead of indictments. The Dems haven't shown that much spine as of yet.

Easier to pardon them when they are already out of office. Those Bush leaves behind will be the scape goats.

As I'd said elsewhere, it's setting up a Bush pardon for Gonzales. Pardons are not allowed in the case of impeachment, which he certainly would have faced as the tide of evidence of his perjury continued. This sets Bush up to try and short-circuit the investigations with a pardon.

With this moniker, you were expecting a picture?

Cenk - As usual, you get it. (And, you predicted it before it happened, which is even more impressive). I just hope the Democrats in Congress have the b_lls to keep investigating. Just because these two poxes (poxi?) on democracy have resigned, doesn't mean that what they did while they "served at the pleasure of the president" isn't criminal.

Spot-on Cenk.

But someone on the first Gonzales resignation thread this morning posited that Gonzo's resignation was designed to allow Bush to put Lieberman in the AG office. A Republican would fill his senatorial seat, and with Cheney as the tie breaker, the Republicans would have control of the Senate once again.

It sounds far-fetched, but nothing these crooks do would surprise me.

I know I'm really, really feeling confident regarding follow-through by the Democrats.
10:31 PM on 08/27/2007
Why should this be any different than everything else the Democrats and the MSM have done. Lately I wonder if anything will change. I can’t believe congress is willing to wait this administration out. If they could just see once you start the impeachment proceedings, and this country opens its eyes to exactly what this administration has done. That will bring true outrage from our semi-conscious, misinformed populace. This will get enough Reps on board to get the controls away from these madmen.

I had the very same thought, though not nearly as coherently phrased. good to see you have your finger on the pulse of this issue.

Mr. Uygur, do not expect the democrats to do the right thing. They are afraid that they will look vindictive. Myself, I am afraid that Rove and Gonzales will live out their miserable lives without ever having to pay for the misery they helped bring about by enabling Cheney's thugs.
But then I remember that John Mitchell served 19 months in prison, and that Spiro Agnew got busted for tax evasion and got a suspended sentence. Plus the watergate burglars did their time. So I hold onto the hope that there will be some accountability this side of the grave for these un-American proto-fascists.
If they do get their just desserts, it will be because you people like you kept the story in the public eye. So forget that 1st paragraph, and keep up the good work. Love your show.

Saw one of those hideous morning shows today with Carville on one side and some toad. The subject they were arguing about touches on this, but is clearly directly related. The neocon scum are right now in the midst of a massive PR campaign to make Dems looks like vindictive brats by holding all these investigations. They're painting the Congress now as gridlocked because every D is solely focused on attacking/investigating Rs.

For once, Carville sounded reasonably good in his counter-punching - and appropriately laughed at the insanity (really) spilling out of the neocon's pie hole. So we should be seeing how the "leadership" will meet this new challenge over the next week. The Dem leadership blew it by not impeaching gonzo. Will they step up and meet this stupidity with determination and courage?

Damn... I can only hope...

Oh, yes! definitely continue.

The Democratic tease has gone on far too long. I guess they can gamble on waiting for the sake of a career, but all that suggests how profoundly they are, or we are just completely out of touch. This is the face of obvious gamesmanship. Will the real judiciary stand up?
