Fund Withdrawal, Not the War

Posted: 09/04/07 09:19 PM ET

Get ready for a month of Bush administration spin. Leading up to the next funding battle between the president and Congress over the war in Iraq, Bush Republicans will try anything to keep America from talking about the truth:

It's time to fund withdrawal, not the war.

Bush recently demanded another $50 billion to fund his war. That's in addition to the $147 billion he has already requested. He's counting on the White House-written Patraeus report this month to convince Congress to play along, but America already knows that we must end this catastrophe now.

Sign the petition demanding Congress fights for what America wants:

George Bush doesn't want America talking about funding withdrawal. He wants to talk about his cherry-picked intelligence reports, failing Iraqi leadership, and staying the course. His media yes-men will repeat the party line -- no questions asked. Radio blowhards will use fear to amp up White House talking points. All of it is smoke and mirrors to keep us from talking about what America wants.

Congress must fight back against the Bush Republican spin job. Congress must tell the truth. America wants to fund withdrawal, not the war.

Bush Republicans are out of touch with America. Let them defend the war. Let them claim the surge is working. Let them stay the course.

Americans will remember those who stood with them.

Fund withdrawal, not the war. It's up to you to make Congress tell the truth.

I hope to read soon that what you have proposed in your article comes to pass.

I read somewhere that the Democrats have 49 seats in the Senate, and are considered a majority because the two independents vote with them. Seems like a pretty slim majority. Unless they can get a few Republicans to vote with them, they can't get much legislation passed. At least now the Congress can ask questions before they take votes, unlike when the Republicans were in the majority.

Of course, they don't need a majority to NOT pass bills. That would be fine with me. Don't pass funding bills for the occupation!

"Battle"?
Would you call an adult taking candy from a baby a battle?
The Democrats are fighting just as hard as the Republicans are to keep the war going.

Pelosi also apparently took the rubber stamp along with the gavel when power was supposedly transfered to the Democrats.

One year ago we were having the same concerns. Eleven months ago we had an election. Not one substantial change or peaceful step of progress, or troop has come home early, in fact since that election we have added fuel to the fires all over the middle east. Our Government is not working for Our Republic's interest...

Exactly! Why do we have to tell those Democrats anything? The message was clear in November. End the occupation of Iraq! What is it that we need to clarify?

You can bet your ass the dem votes will be carefully crafted so that ALL 'Presidential candidates' are able to vote against the funding, while enough dems of little consequence in the upcoming election vote with the republiscums to ensure the funding passes.

It's all been quite carefully pre-arranged behind closed doors by the 'one-party K-Street system' and they really couldn't care less what the citizens want.

I've been asking for this same strategy since November, but compared to those "...real Americans", as Hillary calls them, in the K-Street lobbies...I'm of little consequence.

Shut the preznutz and the noeCONS down, ONLY fund withdrawal, send the SAME bill back to him repeatedly in the face of his veto AND DON'T BLINK, tighten the screws on OUR tax money being funneled to privatized mercenary military while OUR soldiers get SCREWED and just for once in your poor pathetic, politician, can't sleep because you sold-out the Constitution and everyone - lives...
DO THE RIGHT THING!

Personally I have given up expecting anything from these democrats in congress. My solution is to vote all these incumbents out and elect a whole new slate of independents. As Nader says, "there is not a dimes difference between the democrats and republicans" what we have in this country is a one party system, corrupt and war mongering.

I'll give you this, it will take voters electing 'independent' candidates that are determined to eliminate the current legalized bribery system of lobby campaign donations, before either major party will work for this change themselves in any concrete way.

I've read this was exactly the force that brought about the end of Prohibition. An independent, third, 'anti-prohibition' party started making real headway in Congress and first one and then the other major party had to call for ending it permanently. The whole reason for the third party was therefore co-opted out of existence by the major parties.

But then, so was Prohibition...

' As Nader says, "there is not a dimes difference between the democrats and republicans" '

Not to say anything nice about the Democrats (the party of stupid) but do you really think that President Gore would have gotten us into the exact same mess that the Republicans (the party of evil) have?
