Is it just me, or is the absurdity of it all reaching all time levels? It's obtuse, and there appears to be absolutely no logic at work. The problem? As we sit around asking, the country is falling in shambles around us. Life preservers are being thrown out to the lucky, well-connected few and most are sitting around, like me, each day with the new American motto. Say it with me.
WTF? Really. WTF?
That's all one can say these days if they take even 15 minutes to sit down with any number of cable news channels or internet portals, blogs or radio broadcasts.
Bank of America gave out $3.6 Billion in bonuses as they merged with failed Merrill Lynch while taking bailout money from We, the People and now NY Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and Rep. Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee have asked who, exactly, got those bonuses, why and where the bailout money has gone, exactly, precisely, to the letter. You know, an accounting. Bank of America's response? Sorry, you just want these to embarrass people and rip them apart in the media, no way.
No way. We, the People, have given you billions and a Representative from the People's House, Congress, have asked you for an accounting and you simply say no?
Obstructionists known as the Republican Party are now blaming the Wall Street downturn and economic disaster on President Obama, who has been in office as active President 49 days as of this writing. One such, Senator Lindsey Graham, R-SC said on "Meet the Press" on March 8, 2009 and I quote, "The stimulus package passed and look at the stock market. The budget is a radical reckless exercise that is scaring the hell out of everybody that is watching this country's financial situation."
Is this the same Graham that has been in Washington D.C for almost two decades, and sat by voting 90% of the time with conservatives while George W. Bush, his party leader and President, destroyed the nation? He has the nerve to say that Barack Obama is the reason for the downturn on Wall Street and that Obama is causing this economic strife?
And in those 49 days as President, Barack Obama has been trying to undue some of the pure evil that the previous regime called policy, such as opening up lines of embryonic stem cells for research in to some of the most horrible diseases and possible treatments; research in which we now lag eight years compared to the rest of the world because of the luddites in office previously. There will be ethical oversight but the science can move forward. Even Nancy Reagan is on board and applauds the decision. Republican response?
"Why are we going and distracting ourselves from the economy? This is job No. 1. Let's focus on what needs to be done," Rep. Eric Cantor, the Republican whip in the House of Representatives, told CNN's "State of the Union."
Distraction from the economy? Is Rep. Cantor serious? Was he not a member of Congress during the Bush administration? In fact, was he not on the House Financial Services Committee and on the House International Relations Committee and the very powerful House Ways and Means Committee, from 2000 on, meaning during before during and after 9/11, at the time Congress allowed Bush to hide his dirty little war's cost by keeping it out of the budget, and as Wall Street was deregulated and left unchecked?
And was Congress or the Bush administration too distracted by the War on Terror that they launched to strip away civil rights, destroy an economy and divide a people? No, they managed somehow. So, say it with me...
As the Saudi's profess to be our friends and as we praise them and give them money, is it not Saudi Arabia that has announced it's going to give a 75 year old woman 40 lashes for meeting with men who were not her immediate relatives? Yes, she had two unrelated men in her home and will suffer four months in prison and 40 lashes....or die. And if she doesn't, she must leave the country when she gets out a broken 75 year old woman.
Saudi Arabia whose Madrassas teach Wahhabi Islamic values that have hurt the world so much in such a short amount of time and yet we still call them friend, support them, buy oil from them...
And let's not forget the other war we're funding, the war on American tourists and Mexican law enforcement. Yes, we're funding the war on drugs by not admitting we have lost it. Why is $39 billion a year going south of the border, only to have that money turn around and used to buy legal automatic weapons in our country that then are turned around and used to kidnap our tourists and kill those who try and stop it? Why is Kansas not growing Coca plants and California leading the way in legal marijuana cultivation? Why isn't the $39 billion going in to our economy, merged with the $77 billion we'd save from jailing drug offenders to the untold billions in revenues from the sale and legal taxation of such substances? Why are we paying to keep a substance or substances illegal that it is obvious to all that we want and will continue to use regardless, especially at time when the leader of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh, can eat his way through enough Hillbilly Heroine (oxycontin) to kill a small mule and remain admired and adored?
