I just talked to Dr. Hussain Haqqani of Boston University and Steve Coll of The New Yorker about last week's elections in Pakistan. They see the elections -- in which Gen. Musharraf's party was roundly defeated -- as a referendum on him, but not on US-Pakistan relations. They also spoke about why they are encouraged by the new Army Chief of Staff, General Ashfaq Kayani. Here is that conversation:
